However at that time most of the guys racing were budget racers and didnt seem to have much money I was told, they run mainly 850cc, all the top men run mainly 998cc upwards.
Back then shockers were expensive for top gear and only a few of the top boys could afford these as well as top tyres etc etc.
My rawlson spaceframe which I know it is, was clad with the davrian Body from the outset. The weight is actually 465kg so I wouldnt say its heavy.
The thing is these days is that most people out there using the Imp engine are still using the same old ideas.
lucky for me Mr Jones of shrigley engineering has taken the 998 a long way on. Its know a very reliable engine and once when these things had nothing under 6500, thats not the case now. There are lots of other trick bits that he produces and are tested under dyno conditions to take that step forward.

I absolute buzz of these little motors and although people think they are a bit tempremental they are not if you know what to look for and how to treat the motor.

It would be nice to see a few more of the smaller machines out next year.

Rob knox i think is rebuilding his maquire because he knows how much the value of the cars has gone up. I was just happy to find one rebuild it and race it. ( refrazed to say he loves his car and loves driving it hhahaha)

Clive did you know much about the Wallinger chassis? that would be interesting to know.

Wallinger Imps

I can think of three cars that I believe were Wallinger Imps.

Most successful was the spaceframe car that Jeff Ward ran with Epic Accessories sponsorship. It was predominantly white, with dark blue upper surfaces. This is the car pictured elsewhere on this Forum chasing Derek Walker's Fiat 850 coupé around Oulton Park. IIRC, this car was later sold on to Cliff Watts, who had the car painted dark green.

Then there was the black 1000 BDA Stiletto built for Richard (Rupert) Long in 1976. This car was unsuccessful, as were most others using such a power unit. As Ralph Broad said, the 1000 BDA didn't so much rev as vibrate.... It didn't help that Rupert couldn't drive sheep.

Lastly, there was the car he built for himself which was fitted with an upright 1000cc Imp motor. This car was a mustard yellow saloon, which used all sorts of weird ground effects aero gear. It was very fast around Donington Park, but didn't really feature elsewhere. The car was sold to John Goulder, who had it painted in his own preferred shade of green with, I think, blue and yellow striping. Sponsored by Poynton Cars; could that have been Goulder's own company?

Perhaps others can correct me on points of detail, or add to the list!

"Couldn't Drive Sheep!"

Made me smile Clive.
As you will well remember the press that Richard & I recieved whenever we met on the track. As for the dreaded 1.litre BDA, I couldn't aqgree more. Phil Marks built me a 1.litre BDA and it was really useless. I reverted back to the MAE and continued being competitive. A costly lesson though Clive.

The Kitten is still broken after the August bank holiday meet - braided lines being replaced, master cylinders and pedal box being replaced too in order to sort the brakes once and for all. Need to take the carbs/inlet fanimold off too to replace the valley gasket, and while I'm in there replace both headgaskets... Also going to rewire it, try to pick up a couple of 16" wheels for the back (Corvette/Jag fitment if anyone has any!) and then I should be good to go with a little bt of testing!

Sadly won't make it out for all four next year - a combination of my posting being changed so I'm staying in northern Scotland for the time being, and I get a four month 'holiday' to Afghanistan from March-time, so we'll see how much I and the car get out. Might do some Knockhill stuff to keep current, we shall see

The dates are still being worked on. Most clubs are in the same position at this time of year & the draft calendar is probably in its 12th edition, not helped by the recent change in Donington planning permission (extra days).

The CSCC calendar is usually published at the AGM which is on 27 November so we should know more after that.

Couple of picss of wallinger imps at ingliston below:

Fastest Imp I remember from ingliston was a Carter imp it was red with a yellow/beige rear wing it came up from the south one summer early 80's and was quicker than everything except the quickest of the big engined special saloons may have been Nick Carter (?) driving it?

The John Kirk car in the first and third pictures is, IIRC, the ex-Cliff Watts Imp.

The second picture is Wallinger's own car, mustard yellow and sponsored by John Poynton Cars, as I related in a previous posting on this thread.

Help identifying this spaceframed RS2000 please

Hi

does anyone recognise this Escort please?

Who built the spaceframe chassis is what were're really tyring to find out.

There's a 2nd chassis plate, LDK01RR, as well as the Ford RS one which it's registered under.

My friend has owned it for the last 14 years thinking it's a Zakspeed, as have the previous 2 owners & it's been featured as such in 2 magazines, CCC & Performance Ford. He's lost the CCC issue circa 1987, has anyone got a copy? This article apparently states it was owned by a Greek hotrodder from London who used it on the road.

The bodywork looks like the smaller scaled down version of Nick Whiting's & the front spaceframe bears more resemblance to his car than a Zakspeed or anything else I've found.

Link to Ebay ad, which I'm led to believe is allowed?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370553111301?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_1815wt_937

We're currently waiting for DVLA to supply the list of previous owners in case any of them either built it or know who did.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Clive

John Robertson Racing & Tony Sugden...where are they?

Thanks for Walter's email address, he called me & was very helpful & is looking for some old pictures that he might have with the bodywork removed.

His chassis was built by John Robinson Racing Services in Northants, as was Nick Whiting's. I always thought NW built his own chassis.

Walter informed me that his chassis was later run by Tony Sugden...coincidentally I recognised a strong similarity to ours from a picture of Tony's which I found whilst searching but I think Tony's is the Mk1 red/gold Escort so who's is the Mk2 yellow number 10?

The RR in our 2nd chassis plate could stand for 'Robinson Racing'?

Anyone got contact details for Tony Sugden please?

Clive
