Calder Park

Why are the V8's not going to Calder Park this year?

Its one of the tracks I wanted to see, but they are not going

Depends on which version you want to hear about - AVESCO - the track and facilities are not up to scratch, Calder - we want entertainment not a procession

Basically Calder Park is now in the business of hiring the circuit out NOT putting on motor sport IOW let other peoples money do the promotion, hard work - they just get the hire fees.

I guess the pit facilites aren't up to scratch as the round there last year was 3x20 races instead of last years 2x45 minute races with pitstops.

Morris fluked it and got out in front holding everyone up for the day and won it.

I'm glad they aren't going there. Calder just reinforces the fact that V8 Supercars is a boring procession... And the facilities are pox into the bargain. The sooner it closes the better.

I don't mind the calder layout actually, although in the V8s it has lead to some processional races, but it's not as if it hasn't happened at other places as well, eg..Adelaide

Well, for my two cents worth, I'd much rather prefer to see the V8's at Calder Park than at one of these pansy street circuits. I mourn the loss of the V8's as a touring car series - now they are just a circus. I still watch them, but without the enthusism of even three years ago.

agreed DNQ, the only reason i watch it know is for what the championship once was, not what it is now. I only watch it now because i always have.

I'd rather Calder than a round at canberra or a round in Brunei.

Also agreed, I also watch F1 now for the same reason. I also would rather see a race at a road course than at a street circuit - unless the street circuit happened to be in North Queensland, in which case, I probably wouldn't object...

If Calder closes he will be one of many to complain - look at the alternatives.

Sandown - 5 'noise' meetings a year - 2 run by Davo (Easter Nats and V8's) - isn't one proposed for ProCar??, and state race meeting.

Winton - everybody grizzles about it - distance and staff

Ph Island - too costly so not enough races run their - victim of GP's

Oh dear, if one of our five victorian circuits closes.....
Jeez, give me a break.

If Mallala closes we have, um, er, NOTHING!!!!!

Calder, like AIR here is going the way of the Doodoo.
Mr Jane doesnt care anymore. Racing doesnt make money

Ummm Victoria has four tracks - not five - otherwise SA has two not one....

However, regardless - one of the tracks has an absolute restriction put on it which makes it unsuitable for general use. One requires ab absolute overnight stay in the country for two day meetings; Ph Isl is similar but you can commute. The killer for the Island is the cost to hire.

This leaves Calder - wether Jane is stopping holding motor sport or not - it is still a reasonable track with one of the longest straights in Australia. And yes - pity about the infrastructure going to rack and ruin - but hey - happens to other tracks as well.

The infrastructure may be poor at Calder but don't forget Oran Park only built there new pits last year but the place is still a S**T hole. The toilets never work and have a bad tendancey to flood. But at least they paint the rubbish bins there, Its just a shame they have not emptied them for the last 10 years

LOL - thank you for reminding me about Oran Park - I had forgotten about the way the bins are simply painted around the sagging bitumen where the diesel fuel is eating away....

News for ya guys... No I wont. The place is a blot on the landscape. I dont like street circuits either, but occasionally you see passing on them.... very very occassionally.

As for Winton... I'm 30 Mins away... And I like the place.
