You Know what will happen in a couple of years, Governments will wake up and relaise that avesco have screwed them, as we all know the crowd figures are about as accurate as one of sadams Scuds.
When the gov pulls the funding the v8s will have no where to race becuase if you beleive avesco no circuits in Aus are up to there needs. |

Rubbish! The Australian V8 Supercar Series will be held in New Zealand, Dubai, Afghanistan, Kenya, Colombia, San Marino and at Mallala - providing a truly internaitonal race series!

The street circuits are getting far bigger attendances than the circuits. Perhaps there is a message here?

And apart from Adelaide the street circuit promoters are starting to consider the wisdom of their choices - perhaps there is a message there? Especially when crowds figures are now being shown to be fudged...

Well there is alot of talk about canberra getting the arse. Calder is a shyt hole and the only people keeping it going are tony raftis the couple of v8 teams who use it for testing and the state series runners who are holding 2 meetings there this year. Sandown has the Easternats, the V8s, 2 rounds of the state series plus the procar 500. Also the Sandown historics. But that will change in the next 5 years when the people who have brought houses there start complaining about the noise. Sandown has sold up there extra parking space for houses to finance a horse (and ultimately the race track) rework.

ah, no.... Any one who buys land in the development at Sandown apparently have to sign an agreement that they know about the racing and have no complaint avenue. At least that's what I'm told. Would make sense, though.

Yeah but just because they sign a legally binding document doesn't mean it's actually legally binding or anything.
I mean if you can afford the justice you whinge about anything nowadays and get it your way. |

flaggie1 - re Canberra - not quite right. Canberra isn't about to get the boot - Canberra - or more precisely the ACT government - want out of the race. Big difference between the two scenarios.
And you forgot to mention why Winton doesn't have a round of the state series this year.... |

Winton doesn't have a round of the state series this year because the chief teletubby cracked it. Something about not making money i'm told. As for canberra WHO CARES.

i read an old AA the other day which was from when the Canberra race was just announced. interesting the way they were going on, how the track was going to be the best in Australia, a bigger event than Bathurst and Adelaide, how it was going to be the pinnacle of the series.......

You're right, they don't race NASCARs around the White House, but they are going to run a round of the the American Le Mans Series in Washington, D.C. this July Not around the White House, but, technically, we don't actually race around Parliament House, either...

Tony Cochrane is trying to build the V8s into something they're not, a mainstream sport, the Formula One of Australia. To the best of my knowledge the V8 Supercar Championship is the only national championship in the world to hold street races like this, even at the height of its Super Touring success, the British Touring Car Championship didn't have such ridiculous races at pathetic excuses for race tracks. Tony Cochrane should help established circuits develop and in turn help out motorsport nationwide, as far as he's concerned, racing cars only come with 8 cylinders and are made by Ford and Holden. If he took a look around at the real heartland of motorsport, club racing, he'd realise that by helping them, motorport fans would become more supportive of the V8s. At every club meeting I go to in NSW (and I go to a lot) people complain about Tony Cochrane and the V8s which trivialise real motorsport. Just look at how the HSRCA got shafted by both CAMS and AVESCO over the Eastern Creek V8s, Wakefield Historics. CAMS regulations clearly state that only one major race meeting can be held in each state on each weekend and the HSCRA had Wakefield booked long before the V8s chose their date for Eastern Creek, now the HSRCA has a shortage of officials. AVESCO need to wake up and realise that if they continue the way they're going, their vision of professional motorsport in Australia will die and Procar will end up flogging them.

Do you think procar will go past them. Because they did apply to cams to use the Australian Touring Car Championship name from this year. Because the V8s are now known as the "Championship Series"

What happened to the oval at Calder Park? Is it still used?
I went there in 1987 when they used it with the normal track. It was truely incredible. Was the year the Texaco Sierras were over there, a week after Bathurst. Last time i was in Melbourne for F1 i forgot/no-time to check out Calder. Tell me about it... |

I think they stopped using the oval when it got to bumpy/unsafe and they decided that they didn't want to fix it...

The oval at Calder Park is still used for Nascar rides and the occaisional driver training and tv commercial. But as crash test said it is bumpy and the grandstand and walls are slowly sliding down the hill. Calder has basically become a track for hire.

I thought that the only reason the track isn't being used is because Bob Jane decided he didn't want to run and promote the NASCAR championship anymore, and when the competitors, the powertour etc.. tried to hire the thunderdome Jane wanted them to pay an outragous fee for using it. I think i also read that while it is bumpy, it was still good for about another 2 years.
Anyone know what the state of the Dome is at the moment, walls, grandstands, pit area etc... |
