Mighty Mini regs.

Hello peeps, nice forum you've got here, been reading over the last few days- very informative.

A quick question- In the Might Mini regs it says the exhaust can be replaced from the cat flange back. Does this mean the flange before or after the cat? i.e. can the cat be ditched?

I've tried to join a Mighty Mini driver's forum but haven't had any feedback from them yet so sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance-
Ste

This isn't really the right place to ask about technical regs, as this forum covers lots of series from around the globe, and isn't meant to be technical.

However, I can tell you that the cat can go - but you may need to replace it come MOT time if your car is 'L' reg or younger.

If you need more technical help, email the Craig Rogers and tell him you're building a Mighty, or failing that, contact Rodger Tello direct.

Many thanks Chris. I've found Rodger to be very helpful upto now but wasn't sure if I should bother him with tech queries.

The reason for the question was that I ordered an exhaust for my Girlfriend's Mini and when it arrived yesterday they sent me a Maniflow de-cat pipe too. I was going to return it but if I can use it on the Mighty Mini I obviously won't bother.

I'm only at the very first stages of this. I've never raced before and only applied for my MSA pack 3 days ago. I've been doing track days for a while and decided that the urge to race had become too much. Rodger sent me the tech regs and they arrived yesterday (although I'd downloaded them from the CandFRacing site already). I still need to find a car to start the build on.

Any help or leads to a potential car for sale appreciated.

Thanks again-
Ste

'He' has already seen them.

It's not like there are much cheaper ways of getting on circuit are there- or am I being stupid?

Erm... why not?

This forum is for people to discuss 'National & Club Racing' is it not? Surely helping a newcomer pick which series to do by offering helpful advice and pointing out factual reasons rather than dropping hints and giving each other knowing winks wouldn't be frowned upon.

I'm aware the BRSCC has bumped its entry fees up this year- is there anything else I should be aware of, or any other helpful constructive help anyone can offer?

Ok then, if this isn't "a discussion for this forum.." where should I be discussing it?

Answers would be appreciated- I don't want to throw my hard-earned at this if there's a much cheaper way.

Thanks in advance.

The Racer's Forum would be a better place to discuss it, and there's been one or two threads in the recent past on this very subject. Try this thread: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...threadid=41200

Oh, and if you want a more direct answer - try 2CV racing or MGOC/MGCC racing for starters - I'm sure the denizens of the Racer's Forum will be able to suggest more.

Ooh now.

Seems like a bit of strong arming going on here Snapper.

In the interests of balance I think most of the photographers I meet around the circuits are great. I have my own particular fave but I won't advertise here.

The original question concerned Mini regs and I notice our new novice wants info about that which Chris has provided.

The other query concerns cheap entry level motorsport and we have many peeps on this board who can advise. However "cheap" is a relative term and it generally doesn't sit in the same sentence as the word "motorsport".

Anyway whom have we got with advice?

DanFlag sprints his MG Midget.
Simon Drabble races an Historic Lotus (and because he hasn't sold it yet, an Alfa).
Chris Y races a Mighty Mini and a MG Maestro.
"Rocket" Rod Birley races just about anything and competitively. (Grrr.)
GFM is in the same category as Rod.
Garry Woodcock races in the Formula Saloons.
Chris Griffin races a Rover (just being prpeared) in the CTCRC Classic Group 1 Championship.

Then there's me.

The above are UK based but we've also got David Patterson who races historics in Australia. He can give a good insight into the differences between UK and antipodean costs.

Apologies if I've missed anybody its purely an error on my part and not intentional.

Anyway, feel free to ask ste_dot and we'll see what info we can dredge up.

But initially Chris is right. The MGCC/MGOC seem to offier the most competitively priced options.

Superb, many thanks. I'll get myself over to the 'Racer's Forum'....

I read a piece on Stock Hatch in an old CCC last night and that sounds like good value.....

Actually you're in it. Our moderators can move posts which they think are more suited to another location. I've got one going about Spa in here but its turning into a Trackside style thread.

But at least it gets you around the site!

I used to sprint a Midget, now I've got a rather quicker MGBGT - albeit totally brokern!

The age old question of what's the cheapest is difficult to answer.. but I think the usual suspects have been mentioned above..

Stock Hatch - cheap because regs are very restrictive, cheap entry fees, loads of entries, loads of 'incidents' - which can get costly.

MGCC run non champ races, so if you want a taster this is a cheap way to get invovled. Brands race later in the year costs £100 to enter. Any MG will do. So Maestro / metro approach would be very cheap and each have a championship. You could also do some events in the MGCC Speed Champ if running on a tight budget!

However, if you can't afford a tow car / trailer (lots of cash). HSCC run the 70's Roadsports Champ which is quite restrictive of regs and you are encouraged to drive to / from circuit . Very few big incidents and great racing.

The options I'd consdier are:

StockHatch (750MC)
Road Saloons (BRSCC??)
Uno's (BRSCC)
Metros (MGCC)
Maestros (BARC / MGOC)
HSCC (with a 1275cc Midget??)

Thanks for taking the time to reply- input much appreciated.

I've started bothering the organisers for the regulations and I'm looking at the cost of the above.

Midget got sold last October.. 'new' MGBGT used to be and could be raced in future. A quick car, but we blew a head gasket, and now we've got compression / pressurising the crankcase problems.. piston rings presumably, but it's already bored out so fingers crossed on damage front.. won't be out again this year due to other committments.. sob.

Hope all is well wherever you are..

I would concur with coments about HSCC 70's Roadsports. I started in that championship. Its a very friendly series and geared towards the beginner. Being run by HSCC means you will race at some great meetings (Brands Super Prix and Oulton Park Gold Cup being two of them). Richard Thorne runs the series and is always happy to talk with newcomers (he normally has an ad for his garage in the mags and you can get the number from that).

BCV8 series would be good for B, running in standard class. It would kick butt. But only if it gets mended! However, co-owner has just gone and bought a race Caterham ROadsport.. so next years' plans are up inthe air a little!
