On the Monday after Sandown Jnr, M Skaife & M Ambrose are off to China for promotional work for the race next year. Apparently the Chinese officials at Oran Park took a liking to Jnr-san?
D Besnard had a motor cycle accident this week requiring 12 stiches (his left shin), which then became infected and is in hospital for 3 days for treatment.

I certainly hope Mr Ambrose and Mr Skaife get to go, the AVESCO announcement was a little wishy washy and non committal about a future date for the signing ceremony.

What precisely do they want to do with Jr?? :confused:

Getting an infection will do wonders for your fitness, you would think teams would have exclusion clauses (D.Franchitti rooted his whole year after falling off his Harley)

Just to add to the story todays Courier (Thu) says the meeting was to be held on 16/8 but the Chinese stood up Avesco. The meeting was for a 5 year deal for the race. I am not a lawyer but you would have thought 1 or 2 years with an option would be the way to go???

The delay was announced 2 days ago by AVESCO - I carried the release on Racenews and, from memory, here as well:

Posted 02/09/03: V8 SUPERCAR SHANGHAI SIGNING CEREMONY POSTPONED

Due to circumstances beyond AVESCO’s control, specifically the unavailability of key Chinese Officials, the Signing Ceremony and Cocktail Party set to take place in Shanghai on Tuesday 16th has been postponed and will be rescheduled for another date.

We anticipate being able to announce the new date within the next two to three weeks. The official party representing AVESCO, including the Chairman Tony Cochrane, and Championship drivers Mark Skaife and Marcos Ambrose, will still attend Shanghai for these functions on the new date.

Racetime - my main source of info for v8 supercars is conrod here and the papers - thanks for the link to racenews and I will endeavour to remember to read it .
And on the chinese race a person who wants to remain anomynous has emailed me to say 2 drivers from a leading team will be required to learn basic chinese dialect before the race so they can perform sponsor requirements.
And Jono why do they need 3 drivers to go over???

Maybe they will send Todd in the Control Freak's place? He seems to be getting a lot of media commitments these days, which I cant help but think is because the boss doesnt want to do them
