Brabham BT 36 N.5

Hallo i live in Italy and i am entusiast of this very interesting forum .My name is Antonino Savoca and i am fashioned from historic and race cars .
Recently i had the pleasure to see , in my friends garage ,the beautiful BT 36 n. 5 (Beasley -Kogan -Steike).The car is in superb condition, like new,and with all complete history ,documentation and FIA papers.
I have read the history about the original bare n.5 chassis sold in auction .
Now i have seen in California BT 36 n.5 to sell (USD 105000) as original ,with historical documentation and FIA papers(???).
So wich of two cars is to consider original if the Beasley -Kogan -Steike or the californian one ? Personally i think the first one should be to consider the original car (even if it had a new chassis in 1994) and the second car only a replica on the first original chassis.Am i wrong or not? What do you think about?
At last , as my friend would sell his car ,what could be the realistic value ,in your opinion?
Thank you very much in advance to all experts ,
best regards
Antonino Savoca

Hi Antonio,

Both cars are genuine to a degree, (but neither are on original chassis now). Westbury had two identical chassis and he used both as both were built up into complete cars by Westbury.

The chassis on your car was made by Chris Fox, the original chassis was sold at Goodwood a couple of years ago and last I heard was in the south of England going to be used to build a replica.

There is no way of knowing which chassis went to Nick Koob or which is the chassis that Westbury damaged.

Andrew

All three at one time or another ran in Australian F2 Series races including the Van Heusen Series for F2 , the Melb. car driven by Tony Stewart and the Sydney car by current historic competitor Chris Farrell.
I think both the above cars were logbooked as Dolphin 732 s , for 1973 / F2.
Very interesting reading… my hubby owns the ‘Melbourne’ Brabham/Dolphin BT36 car you speak of, raced by Tony Stewart.
