For those interested in their maximum speed, have a look to the website it seems that 2 different versions of the Mistral's straight will be in use during this weekend. One with a chicane, the other without.

Yes in the past they have used the full straight for CER and group C, and the chicane for everything else....for us minnows it gets a bit boring sitting in top gear at max rpm!!!

Agreed, Will! But where it becomes tricky is to chose the final ratio. Not an easy task but till now we are many to go for a rather low max speed with the chicane. Matter of taste and of torque may be?

Will because you like to meet friends during racing weekends, I can tell you someone heard you. 103 sent a form, probably more than 90 for Qually and 83 possible for the race. Surprisingly, there's quite a lot of French entries. Comme on dit par chez nous, faut se grouiller, il n'y en aura pas pour tout le monde! Let meet in the chicane…

Had a long talk last night with my friend Jean Marc, he's racing alone his E Type for the first time. Fuel and pit stop strategy is a concern with around 80 cars on the track, we suspect some trafic jam at the gas station might occur. Strategy is the thing which gives headache before the race and you forget after 2 laps! Any recommendation apart from pedal to the metal and give it all you can?

The pit stop is a mandatory 5 mins plus the time taken to drive the length of the pit straight, and there are usually 5 pumps provided. There is also a light that marks whether the pumps are occupied or not. Given all of the above plus the pretty long pit window, to date I have not heard of anyone getting delayed refuelling.

So as long as you are flexible around when you do stop for fuel, you should be fine!

Thanks Will, I think you're quite right! No bother and have fun is probably the good strategy.
Just out of my curiosity, what is your average fuel consumption? With the 911s we used to burn 34 up to 38 liters per hour, depending on the track and the carbs used (Weber's or Solex'es).

We've never taken advantage of the opportunity to start with a light fuel load and top up half way, but given that the stop is 5 minutes including the fuelling, I sometimes wonder if we are missing out. If you want to get your 5 minutes exact, it will require someone to be close to the refuelling point to start timing the stop. At some circuits that is easy, others not quite so.

If you have a car problem, the 5 minutes can allow time for a fix- it's helped us once this year! If we had been refuelling as well we would have lost time.....

Quite interesting again Mike. It all started on a light mode because we are no pros. First approach was to say the winner is expected to cover 43/44 laps while another "normal" car will do around 41 (as did your SLR in 2016). Then we laughed because the basis we have is based upon liters per hour, so in principle we need enough to cover around 113 minutes.
But we went mad when we tried to add suggestions like safety car during refueling or not and race stopped before the end

During several seasons we had a so called manager, a redneck griddy style but experienced. He always says that if you finish each race with 25 liters in the tank, you've better invest in a brain than in aluminium doors

We are using about 30l of fuel per hour, but then we only have 4cylinders!

The noise that thing makes would suggest you're using double that!

Lot less Group 1 and A cars nowadays in Heritage touring?
G2 seems to be taking precedence.

Mind you the Portimao event being only a week later means people probably had to choose between the 2 events?

I stand to be corrected but a lot of Peter Auto customers have Gp2 or GpA cars in their 'stables', but Gp1 cars seem to be with MRL racers, so those with the budget are heading to the Algarve. Hopefully the weather will be nice at both events!

James, if you race with a Grp1, all the expenses will be exactly the same, apart from tires. And you have to face Mustangs which are at least Grp2 while some are Grp5. Few interest. Most people want to compete with a car capable to bring laurels (with a good driver behind the wheel of course…). Hence a kind of Escort Cup as Mike already suggested.

Made it into the paddock eventually. Seems Ricard have joined the 'don't let them in until the last minute' club, as even though half the grid arrived yesterday (or Tuesday eve), there was no paddock admittance until this morning. Wouldn't have minded so much but the car park they shoved everyone in had no electric, no water and no toilets......

Why oh why can't organisers / circuits just let people go in as they arrive, and prevent the inevitable chaos when all are trying to park up, unload and set up at the same time!

Hazard a guess that it's about money; circuit/organisers trying to keep outgoings down to a minimum, including not having to have to pay insurance and staff costs for the extra days.

No, it’s a control thing, I’m sure!

Qualifying done for 60s endurance, stonking lap from Bill put as well ahead of all except one ‘26R’, a Lotus XV and a 904, none of which should be in the same class! Our nemesis, the hoard of 911s, well and truly behind....

Not so perfect in CER, sticking throttle to be sorted. Not what you want at any circuit!

Good to catch up with family Stephens, weather good and ambience also. Only frustration so far a scrut that insists, because it’s not magnetic, that our rad is aluminium. He doesn’t appear to know what copper is....... I feel like scraping the paint off to show him!

Mike what a fantastic beginning you made there! Congrats! Unfortunately a stop around lap 6 or 7 spoils the result. What happened? Jean Marc was amazed by the driving/handling of your car specially in the long curves.
His E Type worked perfectly but too conservative qualy and a trafic jam when refueling (total stop was 8'40"!) gives a mixed result.
Once again some issues with official timing… So many we had to complain to bring the result sheet to a "rather normal" level.
