Project Blueprint: Updating Cars

Since Fujitsu series cars have to be genuine ex main game cars I was wondering where the current model (FG,VE) cars can come from. There arent many FG falcoons around that arent being used in the main game. So, since most Fujitsu cars are project blueprint cars I ask the question: Can a BF Falcon be converted into an FG? Or VZ Commodore into a VE? I know that the external panels are different but can it be done?

If it cant be done then where do the 2012 Fujitsu teams get a bunch of VE's from? At least the Ford teams have until 2013, but their cars will be VERY old by then.

This is a serious question and I am sure that there are knowledgable people reading the forum.

Interesting Q....

This also raises a few others -

*Will there be a "grace" period for the COTF, or will it be expected that these are bought/purchased in 2011?

*Will Current "Blueprint" cars be available as "spares" if a COTF is damaged? If so, will this mean less are available.

*What happens if only 4 or 5 VE's and FG's are on the market? I see Holden as being somewhat flush, but the FG's, maybe not.... Will VESA allow some form of grace for the DVS?

I can remember when VS's were still allowed at Bathurst in 2000. That was a 4 year gap. Surely, someone will see that some lateral thinking is required.

Racenut:

At the moment there are about 43 VE Commodores constructed.

Walkinshaw - WR01 to 14 (14)
GRM - VE08 to VE12 (5)
888 - T8-0023 to T8-0029 (7)
PMM - H-L (5)
Kelly - PE045-049, KR001&KR002 (7)
Tasman - ARC026 & 027, TM01,02,03 (5)

Walkinshaw:
WR001 - Car 3 (changing to Dev Series this year)
WR002 - Car 38 (Dev Series)
WR003 - Spare BJR car
WR004 - Car 30
WR005 - Car 21
WR006 - Car 222 (Dev Series)
WR007 - Damaged at Bathurst , not sure if repairable
WR008 - Spare
WR009 - Car 61?
WR010 - Car 14
WR011 - Car 8
WR012 - HRT Spare?
WR013 - Car 1?
WR014 - Car 2?

Garry Rogers:
GRMVE08 - Spare
GRMVE09 - Spare
GRMVE10 - Spare
GRMVE11 - Car 34
GRMVE12 - Car 33

Triple 8:
T8-0023 - 888 spare (Dev Series)
T8-0024 - Car 39
T8-0025 - 888 spare
T8-0026 - Car 49
T8-0027 - Car 1
T8-0028 - Car 888
T8-0029 - PMM spare

Paul Morris:
Hercules - Spare
Indian - For Sale
Janson - leased to Marcos Zukanovic
Kulwicki - PMM (Dev. Series)
I believe there was an L chassis on the build before PMM went 888 chassis

Kelly (& Perkins):
PE 045 - Spare
PE 046 - Spare
PE 047 - Kelly Spare
PE 048 - Car 16
PE 049 - Car 11
KR001 - Car 7
KR002 - Car 15

Tasman:
ARC026 - ???
ARC027 - Tasman (Dev. Series)
TM01 - Tasman (Dev. Series)
TM02 - Tasman (Dev. Series)
TM03 - Tasman (Dev. Series)

17 Commodores in the Main Series + a spare car from HRT, 888, GRM, BJR, Kelly (2), PMM, LDM & Walkinshaw = 26 Cars needed for the Championship Series which would make about 16 cars available for the Development Series, give or take one or two.

I hope this makes sense.

Nice list B R, but given that COTF will not happen until 2013 it would be unlikely that many of these will hit the market until mid 2012. This leaves all the VZ owners in the fujitsu series out in the cold.

What about if someone wanted an FG in the fujitsu series? There arent many around (less Ford teams, and DJR has a heap) and they are likely to be kept untill 2012 sometime also.

So this leads back to the original question: Can the older cars be upgraded? Under blueprint they should have the same dimensions (shouldnt they) so if a team head a blueprint BF could it be converted?

No. Not one part on the BF Falcon is used on the FG Falcon.

There is another I have forgotten about. The ex. PWR VE chassis PWR 01/55 that Thompson last used in 2008. I also noticed that Bluescope Construction have acquired a VE as shown here. So there is already about 11 VEs entered for this years Fujitsu Series.

I would seriously doubt that BFs could be converted to FGs and VZs become VEs. If there is a serious shortage of available makes out there and it is prevent someone competing in the Fujitsu series, then I am sure there will be dispensations available. Remember last year when the entry list was low and they allowed the BAs and VYs back into the series to boost the numbers..

Surely the anchor chain is common to both?

I can understand the VZ may be hard to convert because the wheelbase is too short but I would have thought that a BF could be converted.

Arent the current cars (blueprint) based around the BF wheelbase.

Both the VE and FG had to be shortened to fit.

The suspension should all be the same, external panels get changed all the time after a big hit. Correct me if I am wrong.
