Radiator technical data
HI everyone
I'm looking for radiator core data! I'm preparing my end of degree project that consistes in designing aerodynamicly a sports car using CATIA and testing it using Star CD and Fluent. Since radiators represent influence the aerodynamics...I'll have to incluid them in my design! So what I'm looking for is technical data from radiator cores, so that I can design my own radiator to the car specifications. Besides tech data drawings showing the dimensions of the core are apreciated. Any tech data in pdf files or other office aplications can be sent to: jpscorreia@gmail.com |

It's unlikely that anyone here will help you with your homework. Why not try to contact some radiator manufacturers and ask for technical data direct?

Well have tried contacting BEHR....but no reply...tried looking for Marston...but they were bought by another company a few years ago and can't find info on radiator cores from this new company.
Could you guys give me a list of radiator core manufacturers? In any case...it's a 3 year project...and I'm only in it for 3 months now...! But I need to start collecting data. |

You could try Docking Radiators at Silverstone, they make be-spoke rads for race cars so may have some info on the cores.

Beyond dimensional data, are you looking for ( or at ) heat rejection numbers? Do you have an engine to put in this imaginary car so you can start to fathom how much radiator you will need? It may be all fine and good to ask a manufacturer for radiator dimensional data, but you need to know what the radiator will be used for before you can really look at all the size parameters for your aero study. Otherwise they may just pick a radiator off the shelf suitable for a Clio when you are looking for a radiator for a Cosworth V8.
I would imagine that if you knew what kind of heat transfer was necessary to keep your engine going, a decent manufacturer is going to be able to offer multiple radiator configurations to meet your demands... varying core depth at the expense/benefit of overall frontal area, for example. Your aero study would then be tasked with figuring out which of these configurations would actually be ideal for the package you are designing. |

Well I've already had a "thumbs up" reply from Marston...so I'll be working with there radiator core data.
Well...call me crazy....or something worse....but I'll be attempting to design a F1 car according to the 2008 proposed technical regulations. About heat transfer...well I read a few months ago in a book (or magazine...having a big collection o F1 books and a bigger collection of Racecar Engineering & Racetech, I can't remeber where)...that a F1 engine is looking for a 120000 BTU/min (or 12000 BTU...can't rembember) heat transfer requirement. But I can't remember the correct number and can't remember if it was the total heat transfer (oil, water, exaust)...or just the water/oil! So I still need to confirm those numbers...and since they were for a V-10 I'll have to reduce them 15-20% for the V-8. Next week I'll be contacting a few engine manufacturers to ask them for heat transfer requirements (data) of their engines...probably I'll be asking for 2 or 3 year old data....but in any case it's worth a try. About my project....well the main idea is to design the whole car and study the influence of the rear wheel turbulence on the CDG wing. Cooling isn't exactly the main goal...I simply just want to have a radiator...more or less the size of the one that would be used if the car was built, in order to study the total Cd of the car. |
