This doesn't sound good to me.
Carrozzino said the driver underwent an examination to assess any possible damage to internal organs and the brain. Asked about a report that one his arms would be amputated, Carrozzino said that "all assessments have yet to be made." "An amputation is not a decision that is made so rapidly," he said. "I do not confirm or deny this report." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor...53226224_x.htm |

Plus also it's so easy to break a hand or arm if you're holding the steering wheel when you hit something hard |

Nobody wants people to get hurt, but it's satisfying that Kubica believes enjoying rallying is more important than protecting his F1 career. Best wishes to him. |

Yeah, understand that now.
Early reports suggested he took a direct hit from a guard rail that entered the cabin & in the photos it looked like the rail had gone in on the left side... Either way, here's hoping the reports of possible amputation etc are exagerated & he makes a quick & successful recovery |

Putting someone on a stretcher doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything seriously wrong. If there's any doubt about the possibility of spinal injury (read as: the driver says "ooh my back/neck is a bit sore"), then they'll be very careful until they can get an x-ray done. And oxygen can be used, I believe, for pain relief. I've heard on more than one occasion of footballers being stretchered off the pitch on oxygen for nothing more serious than a painful broken leg. ( from last month http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot..._1/9322920.stm )

He'll be OK in the sense that it's not life threatening, but that's as far as the good news goes for the moment, except that his co-driver sounds to be alright, but this only confirms that it was the left side of the car that took the hit.

According to James Allen, it was his left arm that Kubica broke previously in a road car accident, which is a small relief.

Lots of conflicting reports at present.
Stephane Samson – referred to as a ‘consultant’ to Kubica by the German news agency SID. “All we know is that Robert’s life is not in danger,” Samson said. “However, he has very severe injuries to his left hand and left leg, but we don’t know anything more about it.” |

Crikey, just come in and seen this news on various sites!
Poor bloke, sounds like a biggie. Speculation is always rife when these things happen, remember Massa in 09??!! I hope he can make a full and relatively swift recovery but I guess we won't know how well that will be possible until we get confirmation of what they will operate on later today. Three things out of this are of main interest for the moment though: 1/ Will Kubica drive again? 2/ If so how much of the season will Kubica miss? 3/ Will they put Senna in the car or sign up someone like Heidfeld as a sub for his greater experience? |

Lots of reports suggesting that his right hand side has the most injuries, but he was driving a left-hand drive car and the impact appears to be mostly on the left-hand side of the car???
Should be getting some official confirmation through shortly. |

It does indeed look like the left side took the major hit?? The thing rolled apparently so i'm assuming that as the co-driver if fine, Robert must've caught his right side/arm got caught in something? The cage looks pretty bad. |

There is a video showing the car and inside the cockpit it looks like either the engine or guard rail itself has come through the firewall in the middle of the car on roberts right hand side.

They hit the barrier head on and it went through the car. If you watch this video, you'll see the big hole at 0:25
Press conference seems to have been delayed again, until the top of the hour |

That's really bad luck. With those multiple fractures he could be out for a while, so I hope he makes as speedy a recovery as possible.
