Like the Triumphs, £5k + I guesss Tel . . . . I bought a Lambretta SX200 for £50 in 1989 as it only had a 150 engine . . . . couldn't give it away in 1993 . . . . £8-10k restored nicely now.

flip side being my £300 TV175 is a minumum of £4k even tatty and used.

I hate to even think about the bikes I bought and what I flogged them for ! I had a brand new Bonneville that I bought in 1967 for £265 (trade price) from the firm that I was working for at the time and traded it in in 1968 for a Honda 750 K1, I was allowed £200 for the trade in against the Honda that was £600. I was one of the first to have one in the south east and was constantly being pulled up by the plod, not just for speeding (19 convictions) but just to have a look at it. I had a hell of a job to sell it in the 70s and eventually got £300 for it !!

I also had several new bikes in the 80s that are now worth silly money, looking at what they seem to be fetching now I would think certainly over 100k
I won't mention several Mk 1 Escorts and a genuine Lotus Cortina that I broke up and scrapped !

We used to have an old BSA that we rode round the hop garden in the 50s, it seized up and we dumped it in the river. Several years later someone got it out and guess what, it was a 350 Goldie

I have not looked for a few years , but 5 to 10 years ago a good Goldie was making £15 to £20 thousand .

Tried to get on Hagertys , who are quite good for classic bike/ car values , but seems to be offline at the moment .

So right! Cant tell you about a BSA but I've been recently asked, last time was yesterday, about cars like Gordini or 3,0 RS. Surprised to learn they can make more than one million. OK for a Gordini but its rather easy o make an acceptable copy of a 911. I won't tell them a word!

I had 3 BSA's, a 175cc Bantam, a 250cc C15 and a 350cc Gold Star all of which got ridden into the ground and sold for next to nothing. After almost 50 years of not riding a motorbike, my son in law turned up about 8 years ago on his 1000 April Falco and like a fool I asked to borrow his helmet and take it round the block. Needless to say I scared myself half to death having never got it out of second gear and returned a with petrified grin.

I understand but there's nothing light and precise like an old brit bike, Bonneville or Commando. After many searches we found that everything can be easily improved on a classic bike but one: the braking! Just have a go on a 500 RDLC, a Gamma or a H2 Kwak' and you'll see what "no brakes" means… A tail parachute would be welcome!

My Goldie had the optional 190mm front brake . Which , with the right linings , did the job quite well .
The BSA DBD34 was really built as a production racer for the road , so was not as bad as a lot of the normal road bikes at that time .
As long as you could get used to the very close ratio gearbox .

Always good to have an optional extra. Can improve the performance. Bet you enjoy it. It probably is an adrenaline rush and a half on that. I imagine that

By the way I couldn't make a very good job of you and the "Goldie" as I would imagine it was taken with a very old non reflex camera in the day, plus it looks like it's been kicking about and not had too much love bestowed upon it The thing is that not many people took pictures all that time ago except on holiday, and even then they might not have been developed for ages and sometimes waited until the next years trip to the coast !

I had a brief flirtation with bikes before I learned to drive. Kept falling off so I gave up.

Yamaha SS50 moped (the forerunner of the ubiquitous Fizzy)
Honda CB250 (not the slightly less undesirable K3, I had the early drum braked model)
Suzuki GT380 - ISTR it was the "flexiframe" model. Dreadful thing.

Sadly none of those now would be worth a fortune would they?

Cars my family got rid of that could be desirable these days include the XK150 my father restored. Although it had a high proportion of fibre glass, it still looked a treat. Our Farina Westminster (110?) was a sleeper car, big lazy straight 6 up front, relaxing to sit in. Also our LHD Mercedes 190 was.an interesting car.

All this history that just disappeared from our hands.

Enfield Continental GTs were my thing, never passed the test so 250cc was the limit. Sold mine for 50 quid, add two zeros to that for a good one today. 787KKE with Scott forks, funny how old reg numbers stick in the mind. My biking career ended on Charing hill when an Ajay 250 seized and threw me in the hedge, a bullet dodged I thought at the time. Then a mate bought a new bike (350 Kawasaki I think) which came with the reg BUL11T. What would the reg alone be worth now?

That Royal Enfield was a stunner, I remember them well, would be worth a mint now.. My apprentice pal had a 250cc Matchless which was also superb. All my apprentice mates had bikes, AJS, Norton, Ariel all names long since disappeared but the envy of all of us was a Vincent Black Shadow owned by a guy in the main drawing office.

A good friend of mine has a couple of Vincent's left to him by his father, his wife even has a Comet A bike that was made a long time ago and still turns peoples heads when they hear them.

Well honestly Gordon knowing certain Vincent model nickname, is it really surprising to find some as part of an… heritage?
We are several here having appreciated the time when we went from K70 to K81 methink. But again the braking… We had Fontana's and Grimeca's of course but those could stop the whell, not the bike.
Or may be its because your roads were less busy and that you were brave and young riders.
