I have a Detroit Locker, I'm sure you know how they work etc but its basically locked most of the time. I have / am considering trying a spool as a cheap alternative option on a different ration 'spare' cw & pinion. Like you I keep thinking it may be a bit brutal but then I remind myself that the current Locker really only disengages in the paddock.

Yeah but thats where I have reservations, manouvering the thing in the paddock and getting it off the trailer in the street and driving it into my garage unaided. That new Richmond locker looks very interesting and available for your axle as well. I may well bite the bullet and go with one and also realign the panard rod as I suspect thats causing some of the jacking I may also change the angle of the Lower Control Arms. reading through some of the specialist forums I have remembered another reason why I went with the Spohn torque arm as well as safety and longlivity of the gearbox, incredible uncontrollable wheel hop on brake and that completely cured it.

A locked diff will make the car a pain to move around if you are physically pushing and steering but driving it will be fine. Will just make one wheel drag a little bit if attempting 3 point turns

If you remove the springs and shocks does the rear axle move up and down freely (say over 4 or 5 inches lift and droop from normal position) with no sideways movement.

Yes there is good travel and no bind.

Hi Al it's been a while for sure. How you going with your car? It's interesting that the Speedway Car I'm working on at present has the exact weights that are mentioned above. But, as we are racing on dirt we don't run Sway bars but run Koni Internally adjustable shocks which I use to control roll. I might mention also that this Class's turn direction is decided by the toss of a coin at the pit/track gate. So I need to set the car up very square as we don't know which way we will end up going. Bit of challenge indeed!
