Petrobras Pull F3000 Sponsorship

PETROBRAS PULL F3000 SPONSORSHIP
by Tim Gray - 20/09/2002

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras have announced they will not be sponsoring the Den Bla Avis team again next season.

The company blames new taxes which have been imposed on overseas sponsorship making it uneconomical to continue - they hope to continue with some tyhpe of relationship in the future.

A spokesperson for Den Bla Avis said: "We would like to thank Petrobras and their staff for such great support over the last four years. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the team, which will continue in the FIA International F3000 Championship."

The team added that they were now allowed to choose non-Petrobras sponsored drivers to race, and asked any drivers wishing to take part in winter testing to contact them.

Wonder if this means Sperafico will leave FIA F3000.

So it was Ricardo that brought Petrobras from Brasil with him, hummm, then like you say he might not be in next year. That would reduce the % of sperafico drastically with Alex and him out of the click!

Not sure if Ricardo Sperafico is a Petrobras sponsored driver as such, just that Petrobras have been insisting on Brazillian drivers the last couple of years, since they lost Jason Watt I think, and that would change for next season. I guess he would now have to find his own sponsorship, which matters more than talent when it comes to getting a F3000 ride

no...he's not. But with Pizzonia probably leaving the team and the team now allowed to contract any driver they want i'm not sure if they stick with Ricardo.

Unless he gets a lot of money from his dad.

Ricardo hasn't done anything special and Pizzonia has outdone him on performance.

The team should get some good drivers in 2003.

that's wrong. the team haven't got a handle on the car properly. towards the end they had it sorted a bit better. the drivers are clearly a couple of the best in the world.

the team won't be able to get any good drivers next year because now the driver will have to bring all of the sponsorship money instead of part of it.

Ricardo: 1 win, 44 points, 24 races, 1.83 points per race
Antonio: 1 win, 45 points, 24 races, 1.88 points per race

Doesn't really show that Pizzonia has outdone him on performance.

Being faster in qualifying doesn't say much...it's the final result that counts and there it's only 1 point difference.

If its too expensive to continue overseas sponsorship why not finish
with F1 as well?

All smoke and mirrors to me

I agree with bella and stranger , I think now will be the money not the talent that get's the drives.Anyone with a full pocket will drive , is a shame that a team who had 3 excelent drives did not share information about the car , would you imagine Ricardo and Pizzonia with same set up Bourdais had , we would had a fantastic year and Sears could enjoy a champion and team champion.

Petrobras will pull the plug from their F3000 sponsoring.
They will stay as supplier for Williams in F1.

Rumours have it that they will go to the Telefonica World Series to sponsor a team.

So the Petrobras Jr team will either cease to exist, or change back to Den Bla Avis.

You might have to change your nick to DenBlaAvis_babe

Den Bla Avis, sister outfit to Super Nova, became known as Petrobras Junior in 1999 and was designed as a stable for rising Brazilian driving talent.

If the drivers were that good, surely they would have been able to find a good car set-up sooner than three quarters of the way into the season.

Sceptic if you look back you'll see that even teams that had nice setups got tricky in some places , you can compare team mates and race eng. but thats all , this new car was thougt for most teams and you know when it starts wrong is easier to go wrong all the way , so don't blame two young drivers that beat Marc Gene and R. Schumacher on F1 Willians test.

that will mean no sperafico in f3000 then, doesn´t it?
Alex was kicked out during the season, rodrigo possibly going to TWS, and ricard finding no big sponsor...
why not having a sperafico team in th TWS? would be nice, too

Stranger , as Tomas lose is points , Ricardo and Pizzonia stand with same total points.
Ricardo has more best laps and poles , but I rated them with a few as best of the crop.
