There has been a strong rumour that McLaren are going to offer him the testing role vacated by Panis.
If he gets a race seat I reckon it will be Sauber. |

Wurz, like Diniz, no longer deserves his place in F1.
However I would guess the seat is either testing for the Macs or the drive at Sauber. |

The rumour (still) is that Zonta is probably going to get the McLaren test driver - sorry, third driver - role. And it may not be long before we have another Finn in F1, after Kimi Raikonnen's impressive Sauber test.

Heard about he's going to be a test driver for McLaren, as he is a good friend of Zonta, who have the offer too...
Agreed MF. Diniz and Wurz deserve to be out of F1, let the others have their chances... |

It will be testing for McLaren, I think. And away from F1 from then on. Too bad he really was promising once and I won't mind if I'm proven wrong.

Yes minardi fan I know that
but the test drive position showed the other teams how good he was and kept him close to F1 |

I still rate Wurz highly; sometimes a driver can lose momentum. Frankly I think he would be better off as a tester for McLaren than as a racer for Sauber.
What is really frightening is that no one has commented upon the fact that McLaren is SSSOOOO wealthy that they can afford two test drivers. Both Wurz and Zonta will shine in that roll, and it will do both their careers a world of good. |

But had Panis not taken the Mac testing seat he would have driven for Arrows this season, so he would still have remained in F1. He's an excellent driver but I don't think the BAR will be good enough for him, just as it is not for JV.

I expect BAR to be much better next year as the learning curve increases-Honda won't tolerate a lack of success for very long. What remains to be seen is whether BAR can sustain TWO competitive cars and not just one.

I also had great expectations for Wurz early on, then he disapointed subsequently. A change of teams will do him a world of good. As for he comment on BAR, this team is improving steadily, and will hit the same stage next year that Wiliams are at now. They need to do a helluva lot of home work on the chassis and aeerodynamics to take full advantage of that powerful Honda motor, which is right up there with the best already. By the way, who the heck is testing for Jaguar next year?

Wurtz does seem to have really struggled this year
I wonder if his height is causing problems, cause Fisi seems to be doing ok, and Wurtz has shown he is a good driver. I think McLaren would be a better bet than Sauber for Wurtz. Mika Salo is a class driver and he showed what he can do if the car is good at Ferrari and has not done much this year at sauber sadly, I think he went there because of the connection with ferrari, I heard he was approached by BAR at the same time. |

Minardi? The boy must have some pride somewhere!
Maybe someone can shed some light on this: We all know the fella is a bit over-sized for a F1-driver. We know last year's Benetton's tub was tailored to Wurz' size and Fissi must have felt driving a saloon car. We know this year's B200's tub was quite vastly reduced in size and al the team felt Wurz should take blue elbows for granted instead of comprimising design, but still the tub is roomiest in the field. We know Mika and Dc are reasonably average built racing drivers so quite a bit smaller than Wurz and the Mac's tub is designed for their body sizes. So then I ask myself: what the heck is Wurz gonna test the MP4/16 when he's not even able to squeeze himself in? And then we're not even talking about other steering and pedal arrangements because of his giant feet! |

Someone actually suggested to Wurz that he have his legs cut down to fit in the cars better. He said no thanks, he had a life outside driving! Wurz is a brilliant man technically and his future may be in a position like Berger has got - some people are just not cut out to be pilots but that is not always the end of their careers in F1.
Zonta will have the testing position at McLaren now that Arrows is set, and everyone will see what he can do in a proper car. That will also give him his confidence back, like it did Panis. |

Liz, I always thought that story about Wurz' scheduled surgery was one of the sickest I has ever heard. Good for him for turning it down.
To be realistic, he would probably be great in the DTM, fast, intelligent and meticulous-and his size would not work against him. |

I think Wurtz will be back in F1 he was really good
prior to this year, willing to challenge even those with a far superior car, it has just not happened this year for him, but many drivers have bad years, then seem to find the right thing. Time will tell. |
