Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Formula Junior Knockhill 16 Sep. 2018

In addition to the regular Scottish Motor Racing Club classes, spectators had the pleasure of two Formula Junior races at the meeting on 16th September. Despite the blustery, and at times wet conditions, drivers provided fine racing.

Fastest qualifier was Peter Anstiss (#73) in a Lotus, followed by the Lola of Robin Longdon (#5).
Local driver Stephen Cooper (#65) was third in a Cooper T65. Graham Barron (#4) followed in his Gemini MK2, with another Lotus, driven by Steve Futter (#81) in fifth. Bernard Brock, Elva 100 (#25), Vernon Williamson, Ausper (#77) and Gordon Wright, in another car from the Williamson collection,
Ausper (#76), were the final qualifiers.

Heavy rain persisted during race one, in which Cooper crossed the finish line first, half a second ahead of Anstiss. Futter, Longdon, Barron and Williamson took places three to six respectively.
Brock’s race ended after eight of the twelve laps. Sadly, Wright’s race was over during lap one.

Thankfully, dry conditions prevailed during race two. An even closer finish than race one, Longdon the victor from Anstiss by 0.256 seconds. Cooper, Futter and Williamson completed the race in positions three, four and five. Barron and Brock both completed nine of the twelve laps, Wright was unable to start the race.

A fine addition to the programme, which was well received by spectators – hopefully there will be a repeat next year.

Is this one of the meetings run in the reverse direction?

Yes, that's correct. Two of the six Scottish Motor Racing Club meetings this year have been anticlockwise.

If memory serves, Pembrey was used in an anti-clockwise direction for Eurocars (albeit with circuit going straight on from Dibeni onto the start/finish straight, and avoiding Spitfires and Hatchetts).
