Epynt Hill Climb

My name is Martin Williams and I'm part of the organising committee for the new Epynt Hill Climb. As it's our first hill climb we could really do with some experienced marshals to help us out in two weeks' time. I've been to events recently at Loton and Prescott before that and I have recruited some help, but we need more.

As background....
- new hill climb venue!
- 1650m long, the longest in Great Britain
- 130m ascent (430 ft for the old school!)
- minimum of 7 marshals posts, plus start/finish areas so we are looking for 20+ marshals on the day.

Anyone interested can contact me on 07899 840310 or send me an email to Martin.Williams@BreconMotorClub.co.uk

Many thanks,
Martin Williams

If there are any preferences for lunchtime goodie bag fillers then now's the time to influence the organisers

EPYNT HILL CLIMB – Sunday June 2007

Marshal's Information

Hello and thank you for volunteering to help out Brecon Motor Club stage it's first hill climb on Sunday 17th June 2007. Following is information on the day's schedule, directions to the venue on the Epynt ranges and some extra information to help you prepare for the day.

Dates & Times
Date: Sunday 17th June 2007
Marshal's signing on: 8:30 - 9:30
Marshal's briefing: 9:30 – 9:45
Following the marshals briefing we will hand out the radios and transfer people up the hill.
Driver's briefing: 9:45 – 10:00
Convoy run: 10:05
Practice: 10:30 onwards
There will be a minimum of 2 timed practice runs. We will try to squeeze a third in if we are on schedule.
Break for lunch
Competitive runs: 13:30 onwards
There will be 2 competitive runs.

Directions
The Epynt ranges can be access from the A40 at Llywel Church about 1 kilometre to the west of Trecastle, which itself is about 10 km (6 miles) to the west of Brecon. Below is a map showing directions from Llywel to the paddock. The route from Llywel to the paddock will be arrowed.

Please note: The ranges will be in use by the army for live firing exercises on 17th June. Please read attached safety briefing for the Sennybridge Training Area (a.k.a. Epynt Ranges) and make sure you keep to the rules stated, both for your own safety and to ensure we have continued access to Epynt for motorsport events.

<map not included>

Facilities
We will have access to an army building which we are using for signing on. That building also has toilet facilities (male & female). The building is in the paddock area so is therefore about a mile away from the end of the course.

There will be a catering van at the paddock serving the usual burger and bap-type fare. The club will be providing a “goodie bag” to marshals in the form of sandwiches, crisps etc.

There will be a PA (public announcement) system at the paddock only. All other communication will therefore have to be by radio observing usual protocols.

There are no marshal's huts.

What you need to bring with you
We would expect experience hill marshals to bring with them all the usual gear and equipment they would normally bring, such as whistles and gloves and preferably dressed in orange Proban overalls.
New/novice hill marshals note: please wear clothing which you don't mind getting dirty and in which you have a full range of movement. Any colour EXCEPT RED please, red is reserved strictly for the red flags. We will have some pairs of gloves available, but if you can try and bring some heavyweight leather gloves (e.g. welding gloves) then that would be much appreciated. Sturdy footwear should be worn.

Like some other venues there are no marshals hut/shelters, so please be prepared for what the weather may bring, whether rain or shine.

Thank you again for your help in running this event. Without people like you giving up their spare time there would be no motor sport events. I hope you all have a great day and that we have a successful event which we can build upon in the future.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or Martin Leonard (01874 658463).

Without trying to do a Murray and put the jinx on it, the weather forecast for Sunday says it should be dry! Just as well as you'd probably need monsoon tyres if it was today

If anyone in South Wales, South West or West Midlands wants to get some fresh air in a beautiful part of Wales at a new hill climb venue, we'd be delighted to see you on Sunday 17th. Signing on is from 8:30 and there will be a catering van so you can get a bite to eat before it all starts. And if you give me a call and let me know you're coming, I can make sure we have enough lunch packs to go around.

Hope to see you at our new hill climb !

Cheers,
Martin Williams

Thank you !

A big thank you to all the marshals who turned up today and helped us run our first hill climb. The weather gods were smiling on us and the event passed very smoothly without major incident. Have a virtual beer on me

Any marshals who would like to provide me with their feedback can write to me at Martin.Williams@BreconMotorClub.co.uk. We are having a sort of "lessons learned" meeting this Wednesday to discuss what went right, what could we have done better so please give me any feedback by Tuesday.

Here's to a even better event next year !

Cheers.
