Hope the guy in the McLaren isn't too badly hurt. Judging by the state of the car a very hard head on with the barriers.

2 broken legs and I think a broken rib is what I heard. It was a huge hit. When I saw the front bent up like that I thought broken legs straight away. What a shame as other than that accident I thought it was a terrific meeting. Best wishes to the driver.

I really hope he was ok. It was a huge hit, with the fire that just made it even worse. I would also like to say a big well done to the marshals, who put out the fire before it became "too severe", and to the medics/emergancy crews.

I missed the actual incident as I had to take my daughter home 'cause she was fed up. I returned to the track expecting to be well into the next event so when I realized I had retuned and no other race had taken part I realized it must have been pretty bad, I didn't realize there was a fire as well. I have never seen a car bend in half like that and it makes you realize how strong more modern cars are.

When I left last news from Masters was that although several broken bones he was stable and injuries were not life threatening. He was taken to Kings College Hospital, I believe. Eye witness reports suggest suspension failure under braking for Paddock (but please note that is speculation!) and the car was launched straight into barriers.
It was about as big an accident as you would ever want to see, the Mclaren had been lapping in 1.28s which is seriously quick. The race was immediately red flagged and I came round just as flames were being put out and couldn't even recognise the car. Very much a reality check........ |

He did lock up momentarily before entering the gravel, but hit the barriers at a fairly unabated speed, bounced upwards/backwards off the tyres and then caught fire. The car was severely damaged, the front effectively folded up towards the driver. I really hope he pulls through OK |

John Grant is a very good bloke and has done so much for Motorsport.
I think all the mob on here wish him all the best and back behind the wheel as soon as possible. |

Agree 100% it took the enjoyment of the meeting away seeing someone badly injured and a wonderful car destroyed, I wish him well and a speedy recovery.

Totally agree with JRs posting,John has sustained the injurys as described by Mike in post157 and was indeed taken to Kings. It is a terrible thing to have happened and damped down an otherwise excellent weekend for Masters and I also wish John a very speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him up and about very soon.
I would also say what an excellent job the rescue teams/medical teams did with a pretty intricate situation, excellent work by all involved. Last edited by terence; 1 Jun 2010 at 03:47. |

On enjoying an excellent Track Car? Dont worry Tim,piece of p, er,cake! On another note,Apart from the previously mentioned accident,Ian and myself had a fairly busy w/end for various reasons.Great working with the RC Team of MSV and of course John and Claire and I would like to thank them all for a [sometimes rather amusing time,Nick! ] It was good to finally put a face to David Willey, many phone calls/e-mails in the past on a different matter. As for the other members,a big thankyou to you all,I'm sure we'll meet up again very soon Good to meet many other tenthers some I had not met before so now have faces instead of just names. Well done to the Marshals who did an excellent job of mopping up the oil that had been dumped all round the circuit! |

First, I would like to add my best wishes to John Grant for a speedy recovery, and add that although the speed differential between the CanAm cars and my Ford Escort is 'significant' it was a privilege being on track with those amazing beasts!
I think all the Masters team, marshals and MSVR employees did us competitors proud and even the 'typical' British weather on saturday didn't seem to dampen the atmosphere. Thank you all for another great w/end. And specific thanks to the marshals on outside of Stirlings for applauding my spin and recovery in race 3....... There are some other tales to tell but forecast not good and still truck and trailer to unload! |

Fingers crossed John seems to have had a lucky escape from something that looked like it would be so much worse. If someone is in touch with John and his family, please do tell him that he is in our thoughts.
Hopefully they'll be a positive update today on his condition. Well done to the marshals, fire marshals, rescue crews and medics who did a fantastic job in difficult circumstances. |

Sounds like a shocker, well done to everyone involved for getting him safely to hospital as quickly as possible, here's to a speedy and full recovery.
a timely reminder perhaps that old tin foil cars are getting faster by the week but no safer. looking at the top saloons, they're a good 10% faster than in period, and thats being driven (all respect due) by unpaid/self financing hobbyists. That is significant. |

I too would like to pass on my best wishes to the driver and to wish him a speedy recovery.
Thanks also to everybody for their appreciation of the marshals. PJ (a marshal) |

Just to add my very best wishes to John for a smooth and speedy recovery. I know the Masters team and competitors would like to express thanks and admiration to all the marshals, rescue, medical and recovery teams for the highly professional way that the whole incident was handled and, indeed, over the whole weekend.

Not only is it significant it's B.S.
Shows what nonsense it is to develop these cars that eventually become to powerful and with performance that far outstrips the weekend warriors that conduct them.Seems that cars before 1970 are usable by anyone but with the advent this year of featherweight E Types (they used to be called Lightweight)and more powerful engines even that is questionable .Where is it all going?Newish thread called for! |

I too saw the Grant accident from inside Hill bend. There was one wheel skidding from back before the pit lane exit line (the one that runs perpendicular to the track) but what seemed like almost no deceleration unfortunately. It was definitely a big hit and nice to know the injuries are not life threatening.
Otherwise it was a great day. My favourite race the Gents 2hr wasn't as good as last year's but still very entertaining in the first 45 mins. I've got some pictures but I'll sift through them tonight and post them up. I still haven't said hi to Roger or any other 10thers - one day I will! |
