What if Schumacher took a year out?
With the rumour machine working overtime with the stories regarding a return to F1 for Mika Hakkinen I was thinking if Michael Schumacher decided to take a year out of F1 one would he still be the man to beat on his return?

If he took a year out then you would have to question his reasons. So most likely if he took a year out he would not be the one to beat because his motivation must of been waring for him to take time out. And besides there would be a new WDC. The new man to beat.

If he took a year out there'd be so many threads suggesting he's testing for Williams it would get tedious. I'm glad there's nothing like that happening at the moment.

If he took a year out it would have to be with the proviso that if the guy who got the drive while he was vacationing was a good driver and a fan favourite, TGF could not have the car back. Let him eat cupcakes at Sauber.

Maybe if TGF took a year out then upon his return the car wouldn't be so well developed and therefore not the best. Then he would struggle IMO because although his motivation is high still, I can't see him being all that excited about taking the third best car to the front again.
Therefore he will never take a year out. How unfortunate.

If he took a year out he would return with a vengance wanting to prove himself once again as being an extreamly motivated driver...

he nearly took half a year out when he broke his leg remember.....
and on his return at the US GP, he came he saw and he cleaned the floor with every1 out there.. it was the 1st US GP and the real drivers shine on a new track.... just look at Bahrain

Actually GXH, it was in 1999 when he broke his leg, when the US GP was not around. He returned at Malalysia.
But your second point on immediate speed at a new track still stands. |

So if he takes a year out, who is his replacement? Ferrari must run two cars, Rubens and whom? Badoer? The tech groups at Ferrari is united around MS, so the prospect of him going away fro a year might mean leaner results. Not favourable!

Well I heard that if MS winds 15 GPs this year and breaks Senna's record, he'll take a sabbatical or might even retire.
I say that actually would be great for f1. Imagine following line-up: FERRARI - Barrichello & Villeneuve WILLIAMS - Webber & R. Schumacher MCLAREN - MONTOYA & RAIKONNEN RENAULT - ALONSO & TRULLI Things would brighten up a bit
