Actually I reckon the Holden haters still beat me, and we didn't see a nuff nuff go from 20th to into the top 5 in the ZB.

I'm talking about Will Davison from last year to this.

Saying it wasn't remarkable for the fast ZBs to be up the front, but when the Mustangs lock out the top 10, including 2 drivers who couldn't pull skin off a custard last year, it is very ominous.

BUT very early days.

Fair to say the car would be a bit different from last year, and he had some pretty fair results at times then even so.

Regarding the Mustang, I think Ford has pushed the aero and should have been forced to make it look more like the road car.

Agreed. The whole idea of going down the path of stapling panels to a bespoke control chassis, is that the body should still match the silhouette of the roadcar as much as possible.

The Mustang really doesn't do this very well.

I said last year nobody builds a new car to go backwards, but the turnaround for most of those guys is exceptional.

Well the previous cars all looked close even though they were cut and shut.

Obviously the roof line explains the odd proportions but I think the nose and rear body smoothing is only about performance, and I'll be charitable and say maybe its a different interpretation of the regulations to the previous.

I am shocked that Ford signed off on it, the plunge from the guards to the headlights is marked, and looks nothing like the road car, and isn't explained by the constraints of the control chassis - but I bet it saves a lot of drag, compared to the butch front end on the road car.

Scotty seemingly had it easy up the front but I wonder how hard he was really pushing, and what they still had in reserve?

All of the other Mustangs had their share of troubles, whether they be mechanical or driver-induced, but still seemed to have pace to burn.

Tickford doing an almost 180 from last year performance wise

Early days of course, but it was definitely more impressive than the ZBs first race.

Be interested to see if the inscrutable Foxtel people manage to ignore it the same way they did last year. The Mustang appears to have an aero edge on the ZB at least equal to that of the ZB over the FGX. The Nissans are nowhere.
