I wasn't really a fan in the early days... but always remember meeting Brocky in the paddock at the Nissan-Mobil endurance race at Pukekohe in about 1985 (or was it 86?)... he'd retired the Commodore with engine problems and me and a mate decided to wander over and poke our noses under the bonnet to have a look.
Wouldn't have blamed him if he'd told us both to **** off... but instead he was happy to chat to us, despite having what was obviously a bad day. Like many others have already noted... a great ambassador for the sport. Will be sadly missed. Last edited by Woolley; 8 Sep 2006 at 18:02. |

Surely they'll re-name the main straight at Bathurst "Brock Straight".

FOR THE LAST TIME, THERE'S NO RPM on this or next Sunday. I'm sure something will be done during the bikes but it gives them enough time to do his life and career justice.

I suggest national holiday 8th September every year to celebrate the life of Peter Brock.
Peter Brock Day. An Icon that will be emulated, but never matched. R.I.P. Brocky. |

This man had a great deal to do with my interest in racing cars when I was growing up. I watched him in touring cars and rallycross with Will Hagon and Evan Green as the comentators as often as possible.
In recent times he had been having a run in Group A/C historic races, sadly I never got to compete aginst him. Rest in peace Peter. |

Absolutely dreadful news. Deepest commiserations to family and friends; also to his many worldwide fans, especially all our Australian colleagues who've lost their hero.
RIP, Brocky |

V8SA response
"The most befitting place for a tribute is Bathurst. He forged his name in motor sport on that mountain, I think the fans will come to expect something special and we will provide that. We will obviously give special thought to how we are going to do that and we will take into account the families’ wishes.” |

This is so sad and i'm shocked. The guy was a hero and inspiration to race fans around the world, not just to his massive fan base in Australia.
I was over the moon when Peter once wrote me a massive letter thanking me for following his progress from England and for joining the Mobil HDT club and said he agreed it would be nice to have a Commodore in the BTCC! As there wasn't (in 1986) he sent me a metal model car in a parcel and said 'this will have to do for now!' Great driver, greater man. R.I.P Peter Brock |

The way he approached motor racing and life is something that we have all learnt and can still learn from. For 61 years this man was invincible but never changed from the young country kid. A tremendously sad day but such a brilliant life, one that we will take with us for the rest of our lives. |

Peter Brock was my hero, and always will be.
There will never be another King of the Mountain. At Bathurst this year, i want to see James Courtney shipped to Jack Daniels Racing. I want to see Jim Richards and Larry Perkins race the second HRT car, carrying the 05 number. 6 of his 9 Bathurst victories were with these two blokes. I would love to see a top Holden car carry the 05 number at Bathurst this year. How sweet would it be to see the 05 Holden cross the line first, in the hands of Jimmy and Larry (and the spirit of the legend). |

This is very, very sad news. I feel a profound sense of loss - not just for myself, but for Australia as a whole. We need heroes to look up to and Brocky was definitely one of those. In my opinion he was THE sporting hero.
Deepest sympathy to the Brock family, especially Bevo, and to Julie and the team who "ran" Peter Brock. They must be inconsolable. I worked closely with him on quite a few occasions in recent years and got to know him well. As well as sadness and a very hollow feeling, I'm also feeling a bit of frustration and even anger. Many close to him had been saying to each other for a while that they thought the Daytona Coupe was just too powerful, too light and nimble, for even a great such as Peter Brock to handle. It was an absolute weapon, but would also be an absolute handful if things went awry. Which, for one reason or another, they sadly did today. I don't know whether anyone ever said anything to Peter about the car, and if they did, he probably dismissed their concern. He never lacked confidence in his own ability with a car. Some will take consolation in the fact that he died doing what he loved. I don't believe that. Whichever way I cut it, it's still a very worthy life cut tragically short. Gonna miss you, Brocky. RIP. |
