1999 ASTC Cars

What has happened to the 2 Audi's, 2 Volvo's, 2 Patrick Watts peugeots from the 1999 ASTC

And what happened to Tony Newman's Peugeots in the final rounds of the 2000/2001 ASTC

I think the Jones Bros still have the Audis...not sure though. I think the Volvos were shipped back overseas, all we are left with is their show car.

I think Newman wound up with the Pug, maybe Paul Grimm held onto it. By the end of the latest championship i think it was blowing up/exploding/imploding on a regular basis...

I'd agree with you Marcus, but i have a feeling that at the start of last season when they were contemplating allowing the 4wds back in, Kim and Brad said that they had car ready to roll...oh hangon, that means they would have been 1998 ASTC cars

I'd say they may still have the one 4wd one that had the two seats in it 90% of the time...the other two, newer, ones they would probably had to have given back.

I thought BJR had complained they had to buy the cars from Audi Sport? That even as Works(??) team, the cars still cost quite a bit each? Albeit, they got parts/support from feedback?? Weren't they trying to sell the '98s BJR cars (actually '97 spec then??) during the '99 season?? And rumor had them going to the SEATCZC for a while??

There were always rumours of them selling their cars off to privateers, but none of them ever came up with the money..

1999 ASTC cars

After speaking to Alan gurr, he said that Newmans Peugeots stopped running in the championship because the team ran out of money. Not sure what happened to them afterwards. Good news for next season though , Aaron Mcgill should be back , same for sammy dale. does anyone else know about teams/drivers ready for next season.

Well we can now scratch the two Hills Mondeos, but I think David Auger will be a starter.

So they're actually going to run a Super Touring series, I thought everybody had lost interest.

At least as we now know David they could run the Super Tourers as invited cars in Sports Sedans....

It will be very interesting to see how they go against the top sports Sedans. The overall lap times will be slower and they suffer badly in terms of power to weight, but expect them to make a real nuisance of themself under brakes and through the twisty stuff.

Hmm, they shouldn't be a worry for the top flight cars- usually they are as fast, or a fair bit faster than the V8s. The only track where a Super Tourer would come within a second would be at Lakeside, but that was in a factory backed Volvo with Jimbo behind the wheel....I don't know if there would be anyone of that calibre interested in spending that much to run with the Sports Sedans.

Of course not. I'm showing my bias here, i only considered the minimal time difference that exists at Lakeside. I forgot that the V8s thrash the Super Tourers everywhere else.

who said there was never going to be a Super Touring series. TOCA have released a calendar and the TOCA V8 Tourers are now eligible to take points off the super tourers. Also, why can we scratch the two hills mondeos, they only banned hills, not his team, and his suspension will be over by the time the season starts, or near the start anyway.

Hillsy said in the press this week no matter what the outcome of his drugs case is, he is quitting motorsport.

Yeah, they've released a calendar, but it might not be much of a series if only 5 STs and 5 FTs turn up...

Here's the plan- combine FHolden and Super Tourers

I wonder if TOCA went ahead with a meeting with something like 8 starters (remember, STs are notorious for blowing up in practice ) would thye still be charging suckers at the gate??

Absolutely, both spectators will have to pay for their tickets.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Paul Keating said so!

Maybe they'll be let in for free if they walked through the turnstiles 20,000 times before the entered the track

You mean they don't already do this? I thought AVESCO had perfected that technique! (Remonds me of Barbagallo two years ago - turned up at the gate at 4am and AVESCO had appointed 3 or 4 official Counters at each gate to 'click' everyone through so they would have an 'accurate' figure of attendance!)

where and when did hills say he is quitting motorsport. And for this season's super tourers Auger will be there with an alfa, mcgill and sam dale are returning, and i'm sure miller didn't buy a new toyota just to run in two rounds, and i've spoken to Alan Gurr over the email and he said he has had 5 offer's from different teams for this years series, and i'm sure the Morris BMW's, Hendo and the Roadchill Express Searle BMW will be there, plus the usuals that turn up without anyone know, plus the Future Tourers, so it shouldn't be that bad.

Hills has been quoted (directly) in both AA, MSN and the daily papers that regardless of any action he takes over his disqualification, he is selling all his equipment and cars and quitting motor sport for good.
