That feels like a big upgrade from chilton or Kimball. Maybe not Hartley sized upgrade, but still.

Chilton was the biggest disappointment in 2016, but wasn't too bad in 2017.

Drivers looking for a ride include Carlos Muñoz, Charlie Kimball, Max Chilton, JR Hildebrand, Conor Daly, Mikhail Aleshin, Esteban Gutiérrez, Sebastián Saavedra, Santiago Urrutia, Matheus Leist, Jack Harvey, and Zachary Claman DeMelo.

Current teams with open seats include AJ Foyt, Dale Coyne and Ed Carpenter.

Additional seats could be at Carlin, Harding and Juncos.

Only ones I'd really be disappointed if they don't get a ride of that list are daly, claman demelo and urrutia. Hildebrand and harvey maybe a little too.

I see the Foyt team is still a career killer.

Munoz is probably off to IMSA now, like Hawksworth. I'd like to see Harvey get a full season deal - it seems that AutoNation (one of Andretti's sponsors) is supporting him so that's a good sign.

Leist could probably do with a bit more time in Lights, he was very inconsistent - won a few races, but also stuck it in the wall or was mysteriously off pace.

I never bought into the Hartley hype - he was just one possibility for the #10 car. Chip himself said as much. He doesn't have to hang around waiting for Hartley to make up his mind about 2018, and picking Jones is a big vote of confidence in the recent MRTI graduates.

Good point on foyt's team. He doesn't seem like someone to entrust with young talent. It's a shame for both Munoz and Daly. I mean, did foyt expect them to be in the upper half right away with a team like his?

They had a manufacturer change, didn't do much testing, and then despite the second half improvement, both drivers are let go. They should have fired Will Phillips instead.

On top of that they hire Kanaan of all people who is on a severe downslope, in addition to that lazy setup of running one car out of a different facility in Texas because of inflexible personnel arrangements. I don't even know if Larry or Foyt senior is the one actually calling the shots here.

Foyt himself and a few employees want to stay in Texas, that's my understanding. Even though Indianapolis is clearly the place to be for a smaller team.

I think that Muñoz is a very talented and consistent driver, who deserves more opportunities.

However, Marshall Pruett and Townsend Bell said in a podcast that he lacks setup skills, which is an important requirement for a competitive driver. He relied on Andretti teammates, but not in Foyt.

Santiago Urrutia is racing this weekend at the Montevideo Karting Grand Prix at Parque Batlle, next to the Estadio Centenario.

I'll try to talk to him and get some statements on his 2018 status.
