Since I have been watching sportscar racing (1997), I would have tio say Bernd Schneider was the best.

That's a really tough question and my thoughts are inevitably biased towards those who have done well at Le Mans. In recent years, I would put Kristensen and Dalmas high on the list, together with Wallace, then Ickx and Bell, and not forgetting the likes of Bellof who was a great sports car driver as well as an F1 star cut down in his prime. Hakkiman is right about Schneider as well. There are more criteria to think about than in F1, due to the length of races. Mechanical sympathy is pretty important, hence my reference to Derek Bell, who had a fantastic ability to nurse a car home.

Oh, I forgot two others who have to be on any list, Bob Wollek, and one of my personal favourites, Hans Stuck. (And Larrauri, and not forgetting the exploits of Moss, Fangio and others from an earlier era).

I'm going to stop before I have a list twice as long as your arm.....!

Wow, really chopped that one up?!
I have to agree, Jan Lammers was very fast in the Dome (waiting to see what he can do with new Judd )

How about McNish, Alliot, Brundle, Pescarolo?

Well other than my Dad.....

I always liked the Rothmans Porsche of Derek Bell and Hans Stuck when I watched videos from that era as a child. I also liked Bob Wollek and Frank Jelinski didn't seem too bad either. From recent years Kristensen has to have a mention, even if he was in an Audi any guy who has the balls to say that he relieved himself at the wheel on live TV desrves a mention!!!!

Dr. Austin should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
For me, Brian Redman was the guy who did it all. He drove GT40's and 908's. He drove 917's and 962's. He drove Jags and Aston martins. And now he is kicking everyone's asses on the historic circuit with an underpowered little 2-litre Chevron. Because he preferred sportscar racing, he TWICE turned down a Ferrari F-1 drive. He was more than good enough to be world champion.

The guy's competitive career spanned the mid sixties righ t up into the nineties, and he was on top of his game the entire time.

Not only all of that, but he is an incredible gentleman and wonderful personality. Truely, the stuff heros are made of.

Doc Austin, I agree with you all the way with Brian Redman. With a very little modification to what you've said, you could also describe the career and personality of one of my own favourites.

Henri Pescarolo.

Sometimes, I wonder if his sheer perseverance disguises just how blessed fast he could be.

Four of those I agree with (particularly J.J.), but how does Jorg Muller figure among a list of the greatest ever sportscar/GT drivers?

I Ate Yoko Ono should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I've followed GTs since Group C circa 82 when I was a wee lad. I'd go for the following since then (in no particular ordr):

Jacky Ickx
Allan McNish
Yannick Dalmas
Martin Brundle
Bernd Schneider
Derek Bell
Teo Fabi (blindingly fast in that '91 Jaguar)...

Of all time? You'd have to include Moss of course, the Rodriguez brothers, Hans Stuck.....the list list could go on indefinitely!!

Some other goodies....Al Holbert, Derek Warwick, David Leslie (don't forget C2!), Tom Christensen, Jan Lammers, Bob Wollek, Henri Pescarolo, Stefan Bellof......sorry I'll stop now...
