Racing Point did really well by splitting their strategy from the start of Q3: Perez on inter, Stroll on wets.

That was one of the most entertaining qualifying sessions I've ever seen. Amazing lap by Stroll.

Not sure why Max is so salty.

The inters didn't work for him, at least: not as well as the wets. They didn't at the start of Q1 either.
He's frustrated because he was - by far - the fastest on wets

Magnussen is also ****ed off.
But I understand why: if he is the only (or one a few) to back off under yellow tright at the end of Q1 then he is massively disadvantaged.
Like he said, those who did not back off will most likely just get a 3 place penalty and still be in front.

KMags has a point. But the lap Max aborted wouldn't have been fast enough for pole. He still ended up with a better lap time.

Indeed, that made no sense. He wouldnt even have beaten Perez with that.

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at that image really.

Totally get the disappointment though. He and Red Bull were on another level all day and contrived to finish behind a Force Point. I would have bet my house on Max taking pole.

Sitting pretty for tomorrow all the same.

Once my son reminded me that qualifying had started, we joined during the Q1 red flag.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Stroll definitely deserved P1.

If it's wet tomorrow... Who knows?

steve nielsen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Max may still get pole, a whole list of drivers under investigation for not slowing during yellows in Q1: Sainz, Ricciardo, Gasly, Stroll, Perez, Norris, Hamilton, Bottas, Magnussen and Russell.

how does max get a free pass with his temper tantrums.

If that was lewis in the interviews, he'd be nailed to a cross by now.

I can't see Max wanting that. He will want to show the world tomorrow he has got the measure of Lance Stroll, and take the scalp of F1's greatest ever Belgian-Canadian.

I wasn't aware that "not smiling" is the same as sulking behind a bin and giving stroppy interviews.

The more you know!

Max just exaggerates a bit sometimes, see his radio messages, his reactions during post-race interviews etc...
There is a difference between being disappointed and suling like a kid that got his toy taken away.

Lewis had to go through that too, and getting over it made him a stronger person and driver IMO.

Comparing it to Lewis who already had 9 poles and 9 wins this year is nonsense

Earlier in his carreer, of course. Not just today.

Lewis grew up after being around for a few years. Max is taking a bit longer to get to that stage.

I believe the last Canadian to take pole was Jacques Villeneuve, back in 1997 at the European GP at Jerez.
