Motorsport Calendar Android App
If I may do a shameless plug for a little app that me and a couple of friends have developed as a little hobby project.
Faced with the problem of never being able to find out what motorsport events are coming up without having to scour several different websites, we came up with the idea of having an Android based tool to list all the events in one place. It is free from the Android Market - search for "the motorsport calendar" or follow: https://market.android.com/details?id=torquesoft.themsc For the full list of series covered: http://www.themotorsportcalendar.com/ Feedback from the cognoscenti of the 10/10ths most welcome (at least until the mods spot this) . :-) |

Just downloaded your app
First impessions are good, easy to navigate around and locate the series you want to check. |

What will you do about any updates and any chance of clubbie meeting being added?

Tim,
Updates (to both app and calendar) will be via the market. We will be reviewing which series to add/remove for the 2012 calendar and I'm already lobbying for UK club meetings to be added, even if at a high level such as "Club Meeting, Silverstone, 1st Jan 2012". |

I suppose club meetings would be difficult due to the sheer number of them. Out of interest how does the app work, does it link to a database or is the schedule downloaded onto the phone. One other thing, on the meetings that have happened, they are almost blanked out so they can't be seen. Perhaps they could be made more visible on the next version. We are not all teenagers with perfect vision

The event data is all held internally so can be used 'offline'.
I'll pass on the comments about the past events, we were discussing ourselves how to deal with historic events, so it will probably change in due course. The whole app is fairly new so there's plenty of ideas to come let alone changes based on real user feedback. |

Agreed the addition of club meetings would be good, although as already stated a complex task.
Perhaps Silverstone classic, Oulton pk Gold cup etc would be more suitable |

Otherwise great job! |

Yes, There will always be a free version.
There's a new version on the Android market (v0.7) with some fixes (and some lighter text for past events, just for Tim F). We're hoping to be able to react quickly to feedback for cosmetic items at least at this early stage, so keep checking our blog or twitter feed for updates - and keep sending in suggestions/issue/etc. As for iPhone/iPad versions, we've been able to produce the Android version with minimal investment using phones and PCs that we already had (in our spare time too), creating an Apple version would need real money spending on Apple hardware/software so isn't on the horizon currently. |

Hi, I am also involved with this project. It is envisaged that there will be a free and a paid for version. The paid for version will add a little functionality. The free version will always be a full, useable product. We will not remove data, remove functionality or muck around with advert location for instance. |

Version 0.8.1 is now on the market
Extra events have been added, such as the Gold Cup, Formula Ford Festival and Le Mans 24 hours for next year and the Le Mans Classic for next year. I can't see National Racing being added to this App. It may well be that we can produce a separate version of the App which contains only National stuff. The difficulties are wide and far reaching for this. Not least the volume and variation, but also the lack of actual data for such meets and the fact that the dates change at quite a late date! Admittedly with the App we have gone for mass market appeal. But we have been involved with Club and National racing so are interested in these events, but App development at the moment is a spare time thing! So we have to be realistic. It may well be that we can contact BARC, BRSCC and so on and they would be able to provide quality data for the Club or National events, so we might be able to do this. It really depends on getting the data and it being decent. As I'm sure you're all aware the dates for events are sometimes difficult to source or are even not known to the organisers of the events!! Keep your feedback coming, we are listening and will do our best to update the App as soon as is possible. |

We've notched up around 5000 downloads with approximately 50% of those downloads being converted into "active users". 2012 dates are being added as series are announcing them, so if you're an existing user please make sure you continue to update via the Android Market to get the 2012 data. Thanks to all the suggestions from 10ths users which helped get the early versions working better. |

Oh, and would it be possible for it to add Favourite Events into the Calendar? That way, I can quickly scan through when asked if we are busy on such a date, by The Boss!
She Who Must Be Obeyed booked a family holiday, in Belgium, WHILE the Spa 24 Hours was on. I got around 2 hours trackside, in a thunderstorm, then was back on family duties... |
