The moral of the story so far seems to be we mostly started off with for first cars, long lamented so they are in some cases.

I had a 1974 Toyota Corona(ry?) with the powerhouse 18R engine... off white, it had air conditioning, and was a real chick magnet but it wouldnt die.... not even an adventure with a tree with my cousin at the wheel would kill it

The only photo I have of the rustbucket I'm still stuck with. This doesn't do justice to the all the rust eating through the quarter panels.

What a piece of c**p. But, can't really expect more for $500.

That's my driveway, BTW... We have a bit of a problem with sinkholes.

An update on my "Car vs. Tree" story: A week ago, during another heavy rainstorm, another tree, this one living, again fell into my backyard. Thankfully, not on the car. But, it DID fall on the shed in the corner of my yard, three feet from the car. Its base was right next to the aforementioned dead birch that had fallen atop my father's GT Invader kit car several months ago. Fortunately, not much in the shed is damaged, so we're expecting most everything inside to come out alright. Again, I'll see if I can get some pictures. When will the trees stop falling??

P.S. Lee, you have my condolences.

My first car was a '87 Peugeot 205 1.4 GR.

It wasn't too bad really for the two years I had it. One of the Uj's got shot to bits so much that I had to have a new drive-shaft though.

I got hit in the side between the passenger door and the front wheel once. I was lucky as it was quite a hit. If it had been on my side I could have had broken ankles because the footwell was well stove in. Luckily it missed the main structure and I got the whole lot fixed for seventy quid as I worked for a garage that had a bodyshop. I didn't think too much of the accident at the time, but I had a painful, creaky neck for about 18 months afterwards.

It was quite nippy for a 1.4 since there wasn't too much of it to drag around. The only reason I got rid of it because I found a younger, better car for the right price.

We would, except they're not on our property. I just hope the mayhem stops soon, so we can start cleanup this summer.

no picture but i have (as most of the forum knows) a glorious debadged golf vr6 as my first proper car. it's not in my name but it's all mine. it has part of the door trim missing on the rear door on the drivers side, where my next door neighbour decided to trash it.

it's an ugly beast, but it goes very fast and it pulls the boys. even if it is purple and ugly.

I'm still on my first car, a red 1995 Fiesta, its pretty basic, not even a rear windscreen wiper, which would be very useful!!

A seven year old Mini that I discovered was on its second time round the clock.
But I still loved it!
BTW that was in 1971. I don't know whattodays equivalent would be - I suppose a Fiesta or Astra

My first car was actually a motorcycle, a 1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona, modified with clip-ons, rearset pegs, a single seat, expansion chambers, and DG high Compression heads, a true road rocket, unfortunately I was scared off it by the moronic car drivers. Robert

Thumper should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I can still recall my first sighting of this glossy red sportscar outside a dental practice in the Cotswolds. I must have been about five or six at the time. Aged 18 that memory was still strong enough for me to go off after an advert in Exchange & Mart and come back home £600 poorer but with a decrepit TR2 on the back of a trailer. (I saved up for ages so that I could afford it!) It took me over two years to get the thing roadworthy again (borrowing father's car in the meantime), but I've still got the Triumph today. She's older than I am, but I still love her dearly. Same goes for the car.
