Winter Projects

Well winter is truly upon us and I am already thinking of next season and am getting bored with no racing or spectating. Is anyone re-building anything interesting this winter ?
Also does anyone know of a rolling road that will accomodate a low slung single seater as I would like to set up my engine properly for next season but the rolling roads I have spoken to cannot accomodate a single seater given the ride height.
Roll on Mallory on Boxing day...

AHS in Lutterworth have a rolling road for just that purpose.

I've secured my budget fo next year my biggest ever, then it came to the rce dates and I can only do 1 or perhaps 2 meetings boo! need to find another formula

I've almost completed a rebuild on our classic FF2000, a Royale RP30 which suffered dreadful damage when the flywheel exploded at Mallory 2 years ago.
I presume your talking about your Tatuus Kickstart, I can't imagine what you can change on a rolling road unless you have had a range of chips made.

Hi Bob, I certainly have not got a range of chips, but perhaps nievly (spelling ?)assumed that a rolling road would be able to set up the engine to get the best from it. In addition to the Tatuus, Nick (my racing guru) and I, am hoping to get the early 80's Dallara F3 car ready for action this year that he has been putting together from a pile of bits over the last few years. Will you be out in your RP30 in the URS series ?

I'm not sure what to do with the Royale, I may get tempted to have a run in it, or maybe Mark will drive it again, either way, it depressed me to see it in the state it was in, but we could not devote much time to it while running the Renaults. I'm much happier now it looks like a driveable car again.
Going back to the Tatuus, just about everything is controlled through the chip, the ignition timing, the injector timing the mixture control, it's hard to see what you would gain for your investment.

Nige, my Formula 4 conversion is going well. Should be ready for 1st week in Feb (final bit is the custom stainless exhaust) to start testing before the Mallory opener on the 12th March. Just waiting on body work from Van Diemen and then the engine is getting rebuilt in early Jan with the new carbs and also the new ECU (MBE). We are setting it up on the dyno tho rather than a rolling road. But I have the details of a rolling road in Manchester if you need them.

Hi,

I am currently stripping my Supersaloons Spaceframed Stiletto for next season, the car is 26 years old and is mostly made up of filler! Im stripping it right back to the chassis, getting it powder coated and crack tested and hopefully have the engine rebuilt, it should be finished for the middle of he season.
I will be running a 4 door Mk1 Cortina in historic saloons instead, my Dad is preparing it as we speak.

All the best with the projects

Richard

PS We cant afford a Lotus Cortina or even a 3dr!

He has a rolling road in Lincolnshire and has done my Vauxhall Junior in the past. He straps single seaters down then sits in them at full throttle with his lap top...Quite impressive.

We've so far repaired and painted 3 quick lift jacks, now in the process of making some new trailer ramps.
It's been a thrilling winter so far.

Not quite as interesting as rebuilding a FF1600 from the chassis up but a dam sight cheaper!

To be honest, we are still repairing the Royale RP30, but it seems to have lost mometum a bit of late. I will have to get going again on it.

New to Forum, restoring a Royale RP18A

Hello,

This seemed as good a place as any to begin. I am restoring a Royale RP18A FSV this winter. The tub is stripped, and parts are scattered to the four winds for plating, welding etc... I will start on the engine next week.

Sorry Eddy missed this

Chassis and all other parts should be ready for me to collect this weekend

Then just have to build it !

Only 1 wish bone wasn't bent

God knows how much it will be! But Gavin and Bert are totally straight so just said mend it or order new one.

Going to be "works" colours scheme but black front with yellow back, in stead of blue and red

John

Well my winter project was 95% finished yesterday with a shake down test at a bitterly cold and very windy Anglesey.

Had a major miss fire nearly all day and played with the carbs to sort so was in and out of the pits all day. Athough the car was still miss firing at the last session and we still hadn't touched the setup, we still managed a time that would have put us 3rd on the Monoposto 2000 grid last year in the June race....We did a low 45 but I would think a mid to low 43 will be possible with a sorted car on better rubber and walmer weather.

If someone can tell me how to put images on 10/10ths then I will put some images from the test on here?

There are some good instructions on posting images in the Art & Photography section - If all else fails email them to me and I will post them for you.

Cheers Alan,

I have uploaded the images to one of the free hosting websites listed on the Photography section. I am not sure how long they take to sign off the images.
