Silly accident really, Carrie. O'Neill's pit chief waved him out after his tyre stop just as Phil was blasting past after his own pitstop. Vauxhall left front connected with Proton right rear, and the Impian spun sideways, missed the pit wall, and connected with the back of the podium lorry. Collision was focused on left front bumper, wing, A-post and mirror. Very nasty audible crunch on the soundtrack, and I for one had my heart in my mouth watching for everyone's reactions to make sure they weren't looking for any pitlane officials under the car.
All seemed to get off scot free, and Phil was last seen stalking towards the Vauxhall pit... He'd become a lot more conciliatory by the time Vicki B-H found him though. |

I also thought the coverage was excellent although only got to watch the 1st race, some of the porsche, ffords and second part of the second race.
Quite impressive knowledge of Ben Edwards for all the events. Well impressed, the mrs wasnt, I was suppose to be decorating! |

A quote from the PSP Press release from Phil...

Brilliant coverage, thank you Motors TV. Much better than being told "this is exciting" every 2 minutes by annoying ITV or BBC commentators.

Coverage was great, there wasn't much that was missed and the "marshalator" that normally edits out the marshals doing the business wasn't in use! If you know where to look there's even me dancing in the pit lane!

And the production class got a fair mention too! Shame there wern't more cars and I bet some teams may be encouraged by live TV coverage and even the podium celebrations gave a mention to sponsors, eg Varta!

Well, just back from Ireland, and if the coverage is that good I think I'll stay at home in future! From trackside it was pretty disappointing I'm afraid to say. The ridiculous sight of just two drivers taking the production class podium summed it up. For the second year running both races were ruined by the weather and what could have been a very good couple of races were turned into a lottery. I really don't like the new format of pit stops in both races.
So, anyone got a copy of the video of the day I can borrow to see all the bits I missed? |

LOL Craig - anyone would think you weren't riveted by the Porsches......
I'm sure we can manage a copy of the tape by the time we come to Brands. Just on the podium incident, if you look carefully you can actually see someone who was standing by the steps of the podium diving out the way! They've been quite careful with the camera angles afterward, but you can still see the picnic table they had to use for drivers to climb onto the podium. I thought it was all pretty good - it was a shame about the rain - but at the same time, if you have an event in this area of Europe on Easter Weekend, it's sort of asking for trouble! |

I can just imagine the improvisation now. But whose idea was a picnic table?! LOL!

It was a bloody wobbly table too... just be thankful Jimmy wasn't on the touring class podium else the table might not have made it!

Since we're getting some marshals reporting in, anyone want to own up to being the poor guy who fell over on live TV, while pushing a car out of the gravel trap?
Tim Harvey will be back commentating on the DTM this weekend, according to the Motors TV forum......it seems his new career is going well! Last edited by codename_47; 23 Apr 2003 at 20:39. |

Certainly a big thank you to Motors TV for broadcasting the BTCC live, but let's not forget the Granada team who are responsible for the quality of the coverage.
I think I've died and gone to Touring car heaven - BTCC, ETCC, DTM all on live TV - can it get any better!! |

Tim Harvey commentating on DTM - that's a must then! Suppose it will make up for me not being able to go and see the SMRC on Sunday.

LOL - I know who it was and it was one of our BARC visitors from the UK. I'm not saying any more than that! However, did you notice the style with which he picked himself up and then acknowledged the crowd? Now that's professionalism!
