ERC Lydden Hill 2009, what's the news?

Hey Rallycross fans!

What is the program, entrylist and even better the latest news for the ERC held in Lydden Hill in April 2009? The clock is now ticking rapidly, but still no news? I think it is great the season starts so early, no more long periods of waiting! Hope the weather will be nice, dough...

well we don't even know the results of the fia inspection?

You can get a rough idea of the timetable from the fia sporting regulations:
Quote:
Saturday
08 :00-09 :00 Secretariat opens
Administrative checking and
scrutineering (by waiver of the
Clerk of the Course)
(...) 1st Stewards’ meeting
(time/time) Free practice (1h)
Break
(time/time) Free practice (1h)
(time/time) Official timed practice
(...) 2nd Stewards’ meeting
16:00 1st Heat begins
Sunday
(time/time) Warm up
(time) 2nd Heat begins
(time) 3rd Heat begins
(...) 3rd Stewards’ meeting
(time) Drivers’ Presentation
15:00 (at the latest) Finals
(...) Podium (place)
4th Stewards’ meeting
(time) Prize-giving (place)
just change Saturday for Sunday and Sunday for Monday i suppose

on the erc website there is a list of competitors presumably those registered for the championship which may give a rough idea of what to expect in terms of entries.

Ok, but I can remember from earlier visits that the timetables where different in England because of the Church?

From the Lydden Hill entry form:

The entry must reach the organiser by:

27. 03. 2009 Entry fee: € 150
Entry fee for later entry: € 250

So let's hope there is an entry list at march 28.

The lack of information for this event is appaling, especially considering that it's the season opener. No news, no timetable, no entries, no supp regulations, no posters or any other promotions. Come on, these things cost very little effort but would help a great deal for everybody.

Well this is the British round ! what makes you think a euro round would make a long time Rallycross body act faster than normal ??? HeHe !
On a different note what do you folks out there think the attendance figures are going to be? will it cover the cost of track mods and prize money?
I think its great we have a euro round again and fair play to Pat ,Linsey ,Amy and Liam for doing something about it Wish i could of done the same and hope we can keep it for many years too

The commentator at Lydden (during the Winter Rallycross) gave a timetable pretty much as described above; half 12 start for heats on the Sunday and a start at 9 the rest of the heats and finals on the Monday.

Although a lot of work seemed to have been done on the circuit, it also seemed apparent that a lot of work was still underway, work which I'm sure the final thumbs up from the FIA will be dependant on.

The slow speed of information can be a bit annoying (especially as I would happily volunteer to post information/updates up on websites such as this and Facebook etc.), but I guess theres a lot of organisation (and time) going into the circuit modification and FIA red tape, so the details may not even be clear to the organisers until the last minute.

If I understood this correctly the FIA carried out their inspection last year at the BRC? They concluded at the end of last year that Lydden would be suitable venue providing a number of modifications/changes to be made to the existing circuit layout.

Any forthcoming FIA "inspections" are surely just to verify that all the changes specfied have been complied with, aren't they?

nope that was the fia candidate event, to decide which 10 rounds are on the calendar in 2009.

the inspection in February was to check the circuit meets the fia circuits standards, which i guess the candidate event in specified that they must meet rather then individual changes required.

or maybe i haven't got a clue what i'm on about....

Welcome to British rallycross! We poor Brits have had to put up with this sort of nonsense for years so I don't see why you European chaps shouldn't!
If we're lucky the entry list will appear a couple of days before the event and if we're really lucky it may include some of the drivers who actually turn up!

Funny how we've been campaigning for ERC classes in British rallycross for years and then when we get an ERC round they bring in Rage buggies which aren't approved for ANY rallycross championship let alone the ERC. You couldn't make it up...

You could have a fantastic support class: Supermodified!

Go to the paddock when the buggy's are out then, i guess there wont be much of a lunch break.

Have no problem with them at British championship but i think we could have sorted something better out for erc rather then arrive and drive buggy's.

Have to agree, what a shame that British rallycrossers that dont have euro spec cars can't be the support event at a RALLYCROSS.

THE BIG WEEKEND DRAWS NEAR!
Round 1 of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Kent -
12/13 April

With the ERC fast approaching a lot of effort has been put into making this meeting one of the biggest UK motorsport events of the 2009 season.

The event has so far attracted drivers from all across Europe, with over 20 Division 1/Supercars already entered, with the likes of front runner and Championship defender Kenneth Hansen and also local drivers Pat and Liam Doran.

Liam Doran (Kent), favoured as the championship contender for this years British Championship, will face his first European event on his home track and he is really looking forward to the challenge.

Liam Doran:
“The Fiesta is still new to me and I am still learning but after my win at Mondello I now feel more confident with the car and would like to think that I will keep up with the pace. I have been told by my dad (Pat Doran) that the European Championship is a huge step up from the British Championship and I will have to push myself to a new level. I am ready to represent the UK.”

Other UK representatives include ERC regular Kevin Procter with his 'new' T16 4x4 Ford Focus and Steve Hill (2008 BRC 2nd overall) with his T16 4X4 Mitsubishi Evo.
The event also has many activities planned to run alongside the racing to keep its family appeal. Obviously one of the main attractions will be Murray Walker offering signings of his latest book and also commentating on Monday afternoon.

Murray Walker:
" I`m really looking forward to being back at Lydden to get involved with the commentary at the European Rallycross meeting on Easter Monday - for all sorts of reasons. One is that Rallycross is the very greatest of fun and one of the most exciting and dramatic forms of motorsport that there is - and, yes, I do include Formula One in that viewpoint. I have so many happy memories of being at Lydden in the days when the BBC featured Rallycross in their weekend "Grandstand" programmes that made the Sport a viewing must and I`m expecting both to relive them again and create some new ones. Those were the iconic days when John Taylor was the European Champion who broke one of my ribs when I rode round Lydden with him at racing speeds in his Ford Escort while I manfully grappled with a microphone and frenziedly poured out words about how incredible it all was. It was the time when the manic Dutch De Rooy brothers gave no quarter in their Ford-powered DAFs which were supposed only to be driven to the shops by old ladies."
He Added "And it was the time when Franz Wurz from Austria, apple-farmer Hugh Wheldon, Rod Chapman in his four-wheel drive Ford Capri and Jenson Button`s father, John, in his VW Beetle, were making the running at the front. Not to mention British champion Will Gollop and, of course, local ace Pat Doran. Happy days, so it`s no wonder I`m raring to see what it is all like now and to give a hand to the circuit`s main commentators. It`s their show, not mine, but it will be great fun to be involved. When I`m not doing that I`ll be signing copies of my new book "Murray Walker Scrapbook" which has got a lot of stirring stuff in it about my rallycross days, so I hope to see the fans there and have a chat about the good old days - and the good modern ones too!"

Lydden Hill Race Circuit have also organised a display of spitfires to fly overhead in the Lunch hour on Monday, aswell as a daytime fireworks display and lots of Childrens entertainment including bouncy castles, a bucking Easter Egg and game console centres. There has also been evening entertainment set up for the competitors to enjoy on Sunday night prior to the big day to include an impressive fireworks display, disco, plus many other surprises...not forgetting the bar!

VIP Hospitality has been a major appeal for many spectators for those who want that little bit extra from the weekend, it offers the luxury of guaranteed trackside viewing at the best viewing spot at the circuit aswell a private grandstand, marquee, lunch and much more. Murray Walker will also be doing private signings in the morning for VIP guests. Children are welcome in VIP hospitality and even have the privilege of a VIP Bouncy Castle!

The day is guaranteed to be packed with thrills, spills, top class racing and a guaranteed exciting family day out, so make sure you get down to the most talked about event of the year!
