Fire extinguisher regs.

Hi all,

I know this should really be in racing tech, but since it's really a historic question.....

As some of you know, I'm off to Magny-Cours next month for the Gentleman Drivers race.

However, this is the first 'foreign' FIA sanctioned event I've done this year.

A quick question - I'm currently running a (closed) car with a 2.25 litre fire extinguisher. Do I need to fit a 4 litre system for an FIA Int'l race?

Regards,

James W

having had an engine fire at the Silverstone Classic I would advise that you dont muck around stay clear of an Italian make (that failed to work despite being under a year old) and get a 4 litre Lifeline plumbed in
make sure your racesuit and helmit are in date - FIA run different rules to UK

ooh . . mines up for checking, and I think it might be italian, better make sure it works as well !

if it fails and can be proven to be faulty can you reclaim the damage costs from the manufacturer, ie under the trade descriptions act you sold me a fir extinguisher, what I appeaer to have fitted is a shiny red ballast tank ?

Hi

Fire extinguisher regs for historic closed cars under FIA sanctioned events are a minumum requirement of 2.4Ltr Hand Held, therfore you will be Ok with a 2.25 plumbed in system.
For national events ie MSA then the min requirement is a 2.25 plumbed in extinguisher.

I have an up to date regs guide line, which if any one would like, PM me with your e mail I will send it.

If it's Italian Zefarelly, that can't work.

Answer to your question: no.

Hi Jim,

If you're Lifeline Fire as in the extinguisher system company, then I contacted yhou today, and got a very helpful and courteous answer.

Seems i'm OK with my 2.25l system for now!

thanks again...

James W

I might look at a new one then, most Italian stuff works, for a short time at least, and if it works for longer it usually falls apart !
