Your favourite V8 event?
Just wondering what people rate as their favourite event on the V8SC calendar and why?
Some love the Indy for its wildlife factor, others prefer Bathurst for its tradition of the race and sometimes feral nature of camping there... Winton is very popular with the grassroots fan in victoria as is Darwin in the sunny north. Pukekohe, Symmons Plains and Barbagallo always get big numbers through the gates. And then there is a few other rounds in between including Oran Park, Phillip Island and the Sandown 500. My favourite is definitely the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Ive only been once but it was magic! Saw 4 days of brilliant racing and top bands (Saw Grinspoon, Shihad, Silverchair, Jimmy Barnes... to many to name!) The weather is often great and the atmosphere is great right into the night! The closed off street partys were awesome... What is your favourite event of the year? |

Bathurst has to win... the number of people, the atmosphere, the teams putting on their very best performances.... with their best equipment (in the primary cars anyway). Only annoyance is that the program is usually very spaced out, with very few different classes to see...
Sandown is great to attend... to be able to sit in a covered grandstand, and see most of the circuit, while not being in the sun at any point is a real highlight for me. I dont mind Clipsal, but short of attending in a corporate box, there are few places you can attend and not be in the sun for hours on end.... |

I have to say Bathurst. The people down there (Well, most of them), the track and race itself, the history, etc, etc. Went down there in 2004 and have to say it was the best day of my life. The track is the best in the world and I can only say this: "I love that place."

Bathurst would be my number 2, and Pukekohe and Indy tied for third... All of those events are great!

Is there really any competition? Maybe it should be "Your Favourite V8 Event Besides Bathurst"?

My mates in Aussie reckon Phillip Island and Darwin rate up there with the bigger events in terms of having a good time, seems like the majority is in favour of Bathurst...
This is probably the best place for Tony C to get a gauge on what the fans have to say about a particular event. |

Bathurst is my preferred race, but its defiantly not my prefferred event
Clipsal and Indy easily rate higher and i hear the NT event rates highly also. We always have a great winton and had a ball at PI last year Bathurst is really quite an average event |

Sandown 500 continues to turn it on every year so it gets my vote. |

I rate Bathurst as the best for it unpredictability.
Love Sandown , went to Sandown for the first time last year and meeting GTR there was a high point .... but for the whole package I think Adelaide is just fantastic. |

I think it was Allan Moffat who said: 'Bathurst is THE race. Everything else is just waiting." He said that about thirty years ago, and nothing has happened since to change my mind.
There might be bigger happenings around. F-111s, girls, parties, whatever, but THE race, THE event of the Supercar year is still Bathurst. It's the race every driver wants to win above all others, the biggest race of the Supercar year. I just wish it was a 'stand alone' race, and not part of the Championship. I can still say that as a HRT and Mark Skaife supporter after this year's race. |

I think Moffat said everything else is just preparation for Bathurst but I'm with him...at the start of the day any of the top twenty cars has a realistic chance of winning if the cards fall their way. Tracks like Indy or Winton are never going to throw up a result like that. Look at it this way...everyone remembers the Bathurst winners but the round winner from Hidden Valley or Symmons Plain is pretty much forgotten by the following Friday. As a driver would you rather be a winner at Bathurst or Queensland Raceway?

I voted Bathurst - not because of tradition of the numbnuts that ruin the race for spectators as you suggested, but because of the track itself (every corner is special), the length of the race, the strategy involved etc..

i believe if bathurst was a 'stand alone' event Rick would of thrown everything at Lowndes including the car and would of gave it everything until the checkered flag drops but after watching the replay (as i did not see a tv due to being at the event) Rick was throwing it at Lowndes but it still had a bit of caution in his driving and he conseded halfway throughthe last lap IMO. |

Being from southern Tassie and not having left the state since 1999, the only round I've ever been to is the Symmons Plains round. I didn't go in 1999, the "last" time they came here, and I wasn't happy.
I was overjoyed when in 2004 it was announced they were coming back in November of that year. I went to it, and had a great time. Not happy with a Ford win, nor the huge bungle the officials made in the last race with laps completed and positions, but that failed to dampen my spirits. I'm not going to vote, mainly because going to one round that's probably considered by many to be one of the "weaker" rounds of the championship (Tassie V8 fans would probably disagree though) probably doesn't count. Rounds that I like- you can't go past Bathurst obviously- it's a nation-stopping event in my book. I also enjoy Sandown and I'd love to go to the Clipsal 500 next year as the Sunday race falls on my Birthday, and that would be a dream present! |

Maybe he likes boobs and hi-rise buildings more than car racing. I can relate to that. Not so sure about the track and the racing it produces,
Bathurst still gets my vote. Maybe it's the 40 years of going there. I think I like routine. |
