Which FF1600

Hi I am looking to buy a FF1600 early 90's model which is the better car
from around this time the Van dieman or the Swift.

Van Diemen is your best bet Midge. Best quick, and good quality parts are availiable from URS. Swfts are at best as quick, but very poor build quality and parts tend to be ****e from swift.

I'd disagree on Swift build quality JD, especially as I've owned 4 VDs, but both are undoubtedly super-quick.

One thing to bear in mind re: Swifts pre-92 are best avoided.

Also Swift 92/93s and VD 90 onwards can be very tight indeed dependant on driver size. Earlier cars, Reynards and Swift 94/95s are much roomier.

If you can find a good Vector I certainly wouldn't dismiss that either.

I'd have to agree. The Swift '92's are a very good car in the right hands, but the Van Diemens pip it on supply of parts and build quality.

One other advantage of the VD's is they can fit anyone. Some of the earlier Swifts and you had to be built like a jockey to get in them. I know!!!!!!!

What about post 88 Reynards? bit pricey but quick or a Ray anything 92 onwards strong quick and cheap!

I am far from jockey size (ex Rugby flank forward , 6ft1), I can fit it in a 93 Swift . A bit of pedal re-alignment and a customised seat is suffice. Your can't be too fat though so big fat lardy bloaters need not apply. Parts though can be a bit of a headache but no problems on build quality .

Yeah a VD will fit anyone (I am 6'3" and 85kgs). Swifts and Reynards are very small (Ray is a bit bigger - and I say a bit!) have tried very unsucessfully to get into a 92 swift and reynard on a number of occasions!

Fridays hey boys....

It is nearly a brand new car.

I may have sold it anyway. I have someone who wants the engine but also have soemone who is coming to look at the full package. He will also keep it in the NWFF

I guess the secrets out then Chris. JD won't be too happy he was trying to sell me his RF90 last season. Sorry JD it was just a season too early for me.

I hope the kettles on ready for me when I get there Chris......Don't forget to e-mail your address and all your contact numbers.

Dont dismiss the Swifts. I raced a 93 last year and have just had my 92 completely rebuilt (1/2 the chasis, all bulk headsetc.) The build quality is excellent and there are quite afew spares around if you know the right people.
Try BMS in Plymouth.
Look who is leading the King of Kents!
the 92 is a leading car and theres still afew around.

Can I just say Mondiale M93S for Post 89 or Mondiale M89S for Pre90.
Both eminently suitable for the job and parts available 'almost from stock'

Its cool Lee, you did say at the time that you didn't want a quick/successful car as it would put a bit too much expectation on you
