Aston Martin DB2 - MYT 625 - Info sought!

I have received a request from Chris Adams of Four Ashes Garage (who is an occasional poster, here), for any information regarding the early racing history of this DB2, a very successful car in recent AMOC racing history.

Aston Martin DB2, Reg no. MYT 625
Chassis No:- LML/50/181
Engine no:- VB6J/843

This car was campaigned in the early 1950s.
We know that it was owned by Mr C.R.C. Hobbs from Palmers Green, Bramley, nr Guildford in 1952, then a Mr Burgess from Hanworth Park, Feltham, then Alex McMillan (see other thread) of Stalybridge Cheshire Futura Rubber Co, then Mr N.Morrison of Burton nr The Wirrall - we think its proper race history may have finished by then as we knew the next owner who didn't race.
It raced at Snett in the early 50s and we understand McMillan finished 4th in a BARC members race there in 1954. Very early on in its life the engine received a 3 litre engine (originally a 2.6) and triple Webers.

We know the car's history from about 1971 but we what are looking for is any additional racing history/photographs from the earlier period and particularly for the early 1950s. Any additional scrap of info regarding this car would be appreciated. I know it's a long time ago but let's see what we can do for Chris.

This car also competed in rallies when new up to & possibly after McMillan (about 1956?) to 1960

The car could have been owned or more regularly driven by Ernie McMillan of the same company - Futura Rubber Co ltd as its the company name in the AM build sheet.
The Goodwood race was just after a very comprehensive rebuild to beyond Vantage spec, a 4.1:1 diff ratio. twin exhaust system, competition clutch, new carbs at 20400 miles. All of which they did again in October 54 + a lot more at 23100 miles.

Just been to the Goodwood Revival, bought an old Autosport & Motorsport from Pooks bookstore with some results of various races also bought Motorsport 50s history archive on DVD which is very good if you are chasing some car or driver's history.
Now I need some old programmes from Goodwood & Snetterton for a start, I am also building up a little history on other DB2s & DB2/4s.

Been to Oulton Park today & found a little more about MYT, it was entered by Alx McMillan in the Hcap for Vintage cars & Aston Martins & the Hcap for Production & Modified Touring cars on the 2nd June 1956, both races unplaced.
It was still owned by him in 1959, definately 3ltr engined then.

Just an update on our DB2 'MYT 625', we have found in 'Aston Martin's en Competition', a French book, a photo of it on 'The Coupe des Alpes 1953', with its owner Burgess on the dock at Nice.
a result from a Le Mans bookstall after a couple of years of work, now need to carry on & find out more!

Just had confirmation from his son that the guy on the right nearest the car is 'Gerry' Burgess, the eventual RAC Rally winner in 1959 in a Ford Zephyr.

Chris, sorry that we seem to have been unable to help on here, but you seem to be doing well with your own research.

Hi Chris,

I like the photos!!
Let us know what else you find out about MYT.

Roger

PS Do you think it could have been the flywheel bolts that failed on UWL ??

Yes it could be but I hope not as they were ht capscrews & if they fail Pete or your father could be legless, a worrying thought & much more dangerous than a crank.

The other guy in the photo, the tall one on the right with sunglasses, is Ernest Juer, he is still alive & I have contacted him today.

Excert from email from the co driver.
'Back to 1953. Cars had to be standard as available in shops. Big cars started first. First night out and rolling along at some 120 mph we were passed by a flock of just 2ltr Sunbeam Talbot Alpines, driven by Stirling Moss, Collins, Hawthorn and Sheila van Damm. I think that the only standard part of these was the badge. Next night there was a bang, the car was all over the road. We looked and one of the huge coil springs forming the front suspension had broken off the chassis. Gerry thought this might be covered by the guarantee and disclosed his thoughts to Brown; the latter recovered his hearing some weeks later.'

There is a lot more in the email but possibly not for printing.

Met Ernest Juer on the Sunday after Goodwood, ex Spitfire pilot under Max Aitken flying from Westhampnett / Goodwood (joined the squadron a few days after the Battle of Britain), ex Mosquito pilot for the last 4 years of the war.

ID:	29836 MYT 625 in 1954 after McMillan bought it, at a Towcester garage which became Ralph Kaby's (brother of Terry Kaby) garage before closing in 2006 - it was Britains oldest garage.
Is McMillan the guy on the black coat / mac in front of the pump ?
