If Channel 10 gets F1

I wasn't sure where to post this, F1 or V8s, probably more relevant here,

Last year in AA it was reported that channel 10 were interested in F1 and had even gone to europe to talk with Bernie, and they said races like Japan & Malaysia would definatly be live.

This year Malaysia clashes with the clipsal 500, and Japan with Bathurst, and even with the time difference, there will definatly be a time clash with Bathurst/Japan. If channel 10 get F1 next year, and there are similiar clashes, who will win out, Bernie won't let F1 play second fiddle to anyone, and Cochrane won't change his calendar for anyone, and has a contract with 10 which gives V8s priority.

Any thoughts?

"Bernie won't let F1 play second fiddle to anyone"
- He obviously isn't currently exercising that right...if you pay him enough, I'm sure he wouldn't give a rats. Will TC let anyone play second fiddle to the V8s? I'm sure they would get right of way over F1 with events like Adelaide and Bathurst, without a doubt...

Are any other Australian channels making bids apart from 10. Channel 7's sporting line up is looking a little thin at the moment.

doubt it very much.
I would like to see what 10 could do with it really , but I think channel eddie will have it for a few more years yet , but I could be wrong.

9's contract for F1 is in it's last year of a five year contract this year (1997-2002).

This would be very interesting if it were to happen. I think the next contract with Bernie will probably specify for those races to be live, he wasn't impressed about Japan 2000 being delayed 6 hours because of cricket, but i think he'd prefer that than being delayed because of another motorsport event.

One thing about Channel 10, after the Sunday night movie - well, every night - comes the late news (half and hour) and Sports Tonight (another half an hour). So would be virtually no chance of us getting a live GP apart from the AGP. I'd like to know how their going to manage showing Japan and Malaysia live, wouldn't they clash with the 5 o'clock news in some states?

Tom, based on Channel 9's recent track record, all European Grand Prix will probably have delayed coverages as a result of the length of Sunday night movies. The Canadian and United States will be shown live at around 3 or 4 a.m. in the morning. Malaysian and Japanese Grand Prix are probably live, unless there is the possibility of the race clashing with the 6 p.m. news.

Geez, if Channel 10 got this, they would also have a problem with their coverage of Superbikes and the MotoGP, not to forget CART as well although most of them are telecast on a Monday night.

I'd seriously like to see C7 get the coverage actually, they've got no other major sporting rights apart from one of things like Rugby World Cup, Olympics, etc, so I think they're our best bet for live coverage...
