It's just like speedway racing, and yeah, they have brakes...

You can read more about it here.

Don't thi k they do have brakes do they, they didnt in the old days anyway!
BAsically it is like speedway but on much bigger tracks so the bikes can get up to over 100 mph.
Guys like Nicky Hayden still actually have a blat and can beat the best guys such as Jay Springsteen and Chris Carr

Get hold of the video "On Any Sunday" (not "OAS II") and you will see and hear it in all its glory....

"On Any Sunday" is a good grounding but its a bit aged now. If you are in UK and have access to satellite or cable TV it does pop up on a number of sports channels, probably called AMA racing. Look out for the Milwaukee Mile from Springfield. Not just 4 laps as in Speedway/Long track or Grass track. I think the final is over more than 25 laps of a big big 1 mile track. In Australia (help me here 275 GTB-4) it may be on cable possibly Fox sports??

But they don't just race on massive tracks. Was in Bakersfield California on a Saturday night a few years ago. By happy accident we came across a local track in Oildale. The track was about 400 yards. The stadium reminded me of the old Leicester speedway at Blackbird Road. Lots of different classes, races one after the other, racers out to the start as the last lot were on their way off track. Many more than four riders to a race as well.

We had plenty although there was that USA curiosity of having to show your ID every time you went for a drink. No one in our party could have been mistaken for underage!
