Robert Farrell should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Ten Tenths Socialist Workers Popular Front!

There are those involved historic motorsport who started with nothing and who aspired to join the so called "Winnebago Brigade" and have done so purely by their own efforts Don`t assume that everyone with a nice racing car and an equally nice motorhome got them by reason of their father being born before them.

I supposed he is ****ed off with the them and us attitude that seems to seep onto some of the threads on here.
Historic Racing Gang is inclusive and should not be categorised as us and them.

The bit about Motor Homes etc is the politics of envy and is nonsense.Anyway Mr Farrells is not a Winnybag but much better!

You do what you can afford or are prepared to pay.

Thats life,tough ****.

The only thing I have against huge motorhomes has sod all to do with the wealth of the man who owns them just the amount of space they take up in the paddock. I get seriously hacked off when I go to a meeting like I did at Donny not so long ago and we have a clearly marked out patch where we are meant to park our Histo cars its on the finals for all to see, I arrive in good time to find our spot full up with modern minis and their attendant huge American motorhomes and some of us had to park outside on the grass. This is totally unacceptable IMHO and has nothing to do with envy, when paddock space is tight these monsters should be forced to park on the grass not guys with more modestly sized tow vehicles and it also would then mean the guys who race together stay together not half a ruddy mile away in a bog trying to change wheels with a sinking jack also better for the enthusiast to see all the period cars in one designated area. The other thing I dont like is if they leave a noisy generator on while I am trying to sleep. End of rant but you did ask!!

I went to a few Kart meetings at 3 Sisters last year as a friends son was racing. I couldn't quite believe what some people (mainly parents) needed to go racing.

When I raced Formula E in the 80's, fellow racer Mike Newton towed his car around in a converted Sprite Muskateer Caravan. Since winning LeMans etc he's probably changed it by now

At Snet a couple of season ago there was a Defender 90 in paddock with Ifor Williams horse box. Out of said box came a........ Cooper 500.

In my experience, paddock parking problems are caused by hanger on types whose every day cars are let in and take up ALL the space.

Funny you should say that, I got very very close to a big row with a fellow racer at Pembrey last year who has his car transported to the circuit then flies in from the continent and hires a car and meets up with his man at the circuit but insisted on parking his hire car right next to the rig so I couldnt park in the paddock and there is a grassed area free 50 ft away. So after i asked him to move it he drove it round and parked next door to my Dayvan door making it extremelly tight to get in and out the van and had the cheek to complain to me when it somehow got scratched, can't imagine how it happened.

Had a similar problem at Oulton Park in the 80's when I couldn't get the PRS out of the minute gap left. I just can't understand how the pepper pot jumped from our caravan and happened to land on both air vents under the windscreen of that nice shiny Porsche

Robyn, you are so right, but paddocks vary so much in layout that in some just a few transporters and motorhomes can cause a log jam. Add to them the hanger on types motors and you will possibly have chaos. On the other hand there are the trailer tow'ers that don't want to use the trailer park so clutter up the paddock with them. Selfish is selfish, regardless! My favourite is the person who hosed everything down daily uphill from my race cars so that we were paddling most of the time. And no, they weren't in a Winnebego!

Is it not just common sense, if space is limited you all make sacrifices and work together?

So you think it's OK for someone who has a big truck or motorhome to keep his tools, spares, wheels etc. in to park in the paddock but someone who has a trailer should have to run to a trailer park every time he needs something.
