I don't know why Ferrari/Vettel pitted first?

Pretty terrible strategy there. Guaranteeing yourself a stop that others won't have to make. Only works if you 100% know you won't have any traffic (which he would, because Lewis was there, nevermind Max!) and if you know you can manage the tyres perfectly. Which they don't tend to be able to do.
Throwing away a title with terrible strategy indeed. |

Title chances were pretty much gone after Vettel's mistake in Germany anyway.

Remember when Ferraris terrible strategy put Alonso behind Petrov for a whole race, allowing Seb to steal the title? Good example of what your point! They were, but one unlucky DNF could've brought it back, but only if they can beat Mercedes on track. They seem determined not to do that. |

The Mercedes is the better car though, no matter what English journalists want to make you believe.

Congrats to Lewis, a commanding performance all weekend. Ferrari have only themselves to blame for that strategy call. A mature drive by Verstappen.

Situations like this, where Ferrari have completely screwed the strategy and are forcing drivers to either go slowly or take another stop is where you need a strong #2. Where exactly was Bottas today?

Same place Raikkonen en Ricciardo were. It's called #2 driver land.

Maybe they're full embracing the idea of a third car, because they were so far back that it was more like #3 land. Vettel on a terrible strategy should not be 10+ seconds ahead of Bottas on an ideal one.

Well not a great race and it throws up many questions as to why the second drivers were so far off the number 1 driver in the top teams and how the massive gap to the midfield cars has grown so large

Well, Ferrari were really hopeless. Almost as if they gave up after Hamilton's lap in qually. The only astonishing thing was that drive through for Perez. He leaves his team mate with nowhere to go after a nudge into the wall and then turns into Sirotkin. I'd have shown him the red card, personally....
