Ever since Peugeot dragged Steve Soper from the old racers retirement home this forum's been in full-on nostaglia mode. I recon it's time to put the past behind us and give the new guys a chance. So in ten years time, when we're reminising about how great things used to be back in 2001, who will we be talking about ?
Dan Eaves - Obvious choice. Bad start to last season but by the end of the year he was regularly quicker that his team mate. More often than not forced to pull over to let but forced to let Roukonen take championship points. He knows the team, which is a big help, but I can't help thinking he will be overlooked in favour of his better known teammates. Gareth Howell - Quick in Fiestas. Did one BTCC meeting in the GR-Motorports Focus and was very impressive, despite almost no testing. Could be one to watch this year. Gavin Pyper - NSC form was good but not spectacular. Watched him during qualifying at Oulton BTCC meeting and his commitment through the Knickerbrook chicane was incredable. Made Muller look like he was on a Sunday afternoon drive. Matt Kelly - runner-up in NSC despite driving a Primera nearly old enough to vote. Add to that he lost his main sponsor and ran very short of funds. In terms of staight-line speed the Nissan was nowhere near the Peugeots yet more often than not he finished on the podium and posted very few retirements - a testiment to his driving or the teams preparation? Probably both. Any more suggestions ? |

Tom Ferrier= Managed to get Vauxhall drive must mean something special about the driver. Even though the Alfa Romeo wasn't a performer in the NSC, Tom Ferrier can get on to the podium. Hot property in a few years time. Also youngest driver in the BTCT Field!

Don't forget Gordon Sheddon. He is hoping for a drive and he is good. The change in speed might take a little getting used to but I think he has the makings of a very good driver.

Can Ferrier show up Muller and Plato?
Can Eaves show up Soper and Neal? Two big questions which will make the 2001 BTCT very interesting! |

Gareth Howell!!!
Top driver! impressed in everything he's done! Performed brilliantly at the BTCC race last year despite jumping from a focus to a fiesta in Qualifying and the race! not bad for a 19 yr old if you ask me...and his dad is a bloody nice bloke!!! Ta-ra Lu |
