1994 FiA Touring Car World Cup Grid.
After watching the beginning of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8eFu...elated&search=) I was wondering, how many cars gridded up for this race? It's absolutely unreal!

Wow that was complete carnage. I looked at the grid lining up and thought, how on earth are they going to get round Redgate...turns out half of them didn't even get that far!
As for the 1995 grid, that's pretty damn impressive. I mean look at the quality lining up at the back of that grid, particularly the last five rows! Great range of cars too. |

Yep, those were the golden years of ST! Something like 10+ global ST championships, abeit some only had 4-5 car starting grids...
Peaking in '96 with something like 14 ST championships or series with ST classes! |

Was Nissan at that time already part of Renault? (I think not, not until late 90s, early 00s?). And Volvo and Mazda part of Ford?
Why was ST so succesful at that time? Was it because there were more independent manufacturers? Formula 1 was not dominating like nowadays? |

We could start assembling the list here and then put it on Redshoes supertouring register later! Touring Car World Annual is definitely a good source of info! But from memory, here's what I recall. Please feel free to correct my dates or add to list. ASTC - ST series, then ST class (1995-02) BTCC - ST series. (1994-00) APTCC (Asia Pacific) then renamed SEATCZC (Southeast Asia Touring Car Zone Challenge) - ST class (1994-99) ETCC - ST series (99-01) FSTC (French ST championship) - ST series, then ST class (1994-98) ITC - (Italy) - ST series, then ST class, (1994-98) JTCC - (Japan) - ST series (1994-98) NATCC - North America ST series (1996-97) NTCC - (Nordic Touring Car Championship) - ST Class (1995-97) PTCC (Portugese) - ST class (1994-95) Belgian Pro Car - ST series, then ST class (1994-98) SATCC (South African) - (1994-97) ST series STCC - Swedish series (1995-00) RTCC (Russian Touring Car Championship) - ST class (1995-00) STW - German ST series (1994-00) Sud Am (south American) - ST series (1996-98) Last edited by kmchow; 22 Jun 2007 at 18:53. |

That was the year that a Volvo and Renault etc cannoned off each other on the start?!! And then later round the lap Modena rammed Menu so hard he thought he was going to end up in Ashby? I liked ST too, not at first because Grp A was my favourite category but it gotmmy attention because the racing was good and it attracted excellent drivers too. |

kmchow: well yeah class 2 has to be considerd ST too, as log as it wasnt run inder GroupA class 2 that is (if you know what I mean).
BTW, STCC ran from 96 to 2002, STW ran from 94 to 99. But its a good list, exactly what I was looking for, hope we can get more additions to it, as I know a few are missing. |

Btw, do anyone have a link to the results of the World Cup races?
Or perhaps someone not afraid of typing knows it by heart. |
