Vic Elford

Great news to see such a name as Vic Elford (nows there's a name for the unsung hero's thread!) back involved in LM, he is now working with Dick Barbour (DBM Racing) as he has been coaching Venezuelan female driver Milka Duno.

If you have'nt already done so check out 'The Speed Merchants' video. It covers the '72 Sports Car season with a particular emphasis on Vic Elford in the Alfa T33 - a good insight into 'real' sportscar racing and some brilliant Le Mans coverage - 'sans' chicanes!

"The Speed Merchants" - I love that video.

It's the Targa Florio footage which scares the willies out of me....

Yes, excellent to see Vic back involved. Let's hope his experience helps them to a better result this year!

Here's a nice picture of the Barbour pits at Laguna last year, with Milka in the center.

And the Targa footage was shot from a 914/6. Imagine what it must have looked like from a 908/3! I imagine that guys like Elford and Redman must look back and wonder if they were nuts.

It is interesting when these men are reunited with their old racers. I saw the Porsche Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock on Speedvision and all the famous Porsche drivers still remaining drove the cars that made their careers or ones they always wanted to and never did. To a man they all got out and were amazed that they were able to do it back then. Usually it was a matter of the car having far too much power for the feeble (by todays standards) brakes.

I was amazed that this was the first time that Roger Penske had ever gotten to drive his Sunoco Porsche 917 that his team demolished the Can Am series with. You would think he might have driven it around at least once back in the day.

I've just nicked Vic helmet design, as both of us are members of the same motor club - sevenoaks and district.

Vic's a bit hit or miss with the drivers he chooses to get behind. Montoya and Milka Duno.

I dont even know where to begin...
