fr3.5 nurburgring

guess what?

the forecast is for rain all weekend and the start of testing was delayed till midday because of fog and cloud...

so it's going to be a pivotal, but slightly random weekend of results then. the championship battle will look interesting after this!

sirotkin from rowland, sorensen, buller and sainz at the end of the shortened free practice. down to just 45 minutes after the fog delay, same as the eurocup session.

second practice is at 16.34 (!) this afternoon.

also of note is that matthieu vaxiviere's back with lotus. a shame for stanaway, vaxiviere's got some big shoes to fill...

the sainz steamroller continues - halfway through the race and he's ahead of rowland, who has a 4 second lead over merhi and sirotkin.

did mavlanov cause an avoidable incident by turning in on gasly? or is that the kind of thing that f1 is talking about when they want to stop seeking fault in racing incidents?

Seeing the Mav/Gas incident I thought it was just a racing incident, but from Gasly's onboard it was clear Mav just drove into him. But Gasly wasn't all the way alongside, so it is possible Mavlanov simply didn't know he was there.
Anyway, these things can happen if you find yourself down near the tailend.

On another note, awful luck for Visser with her start and puncture, but her qualy showing was excellent. Hopefully she has a better race tomorrow.

1 Merhi; 2 Vaxiviere; 3 Stockinger; 4 Sirotkin; 5 Amberg; 6 Nato; 7 Stevens; 8 Gasly; 9 Jaafar; 10 Buller.

Not bad for Vaxiviere. Shame about Fantin retiring from 6th and obviously the Tunjo/Sainz/Rowland incident, especially for Tunjo, who started 2nd!

it looked like rowland was tapped by tunjo, and then tagged sainz so it wasn't exactly intentional or as if one of them exercised poor judgement.

really good result for lotus and vaxiviere, and in a way for sainz too. none of his closest championship rivals could capitalise on his non-score, and merhi is still far enough behind for him to need somewhere between an apocalypse and a miracle.

Am I right in saying Mehri has moved into championship 2nd because of all of Rowland and Gaslys misfortunes?

Great for Vaxivière, great return . Notably all Stanaway predictions in the FR 3.5 TWPC prediction competition will count for him.
