F1 vs Champ Cars Zolder Aug 25th/26th
Euroboss are a supporting race at the upcoming Champ car race in Zolder.
For those of you who have not heard of Euroboss it is a race series for F1 cars (and others) up to 2003. For more info go here http://www.euroboss.com/whatiseboss.htm Currently we have some very fast cars and drivers in Euroboss and it will be interesting to see how cars like Benettons, Ascaris, Jordans and Tyrells will compete in outright lap times against the Champcars. What thoughts does anyone have ? Last edited by SLK55; 30 Jul 2007 at 08:36. |

aren't there some older champcars already in EuroBOSS? I'm sure there are some reynards, aswell as a G-Force Indycar?

Yes, thats correct, there are indeed. The link in the initial thread goes into more detail and of course has a list of competitors and there car type.
The intrigue is around how older F1 cars will compete for pace against the CURRENT champcars. |

Just been to the website. Man that's just lovely to see all these cars of yester year out on a track. It's a pity we don't get to see or hear more of them downunder.

I'm sure if you could secure some funding to get the cars there, we would have a full grid you !!

Looks like their lap times would be very difficult to beat. Wonderful series, I wish we could see them on TV

If I was a betting man I reckon the champ cars will be quicker, unless Nigel Greensall or Scott Mansell are out to play.........
Seen some champ cars/IRL in the past Mcneil engineering ran Robbie Stirling a few years ago in a bio fuelled Reynard, a G-Force chassis runs and we have seen a Dallara IRL car 2-3 years ago. Last edited by Thundersports; 30 Jul 2007 at 15:53. |

I would imagine that the draw of large crowds will bring a very strong grid for the Euroboss race. Klaas will undoubtedly be very quick there and as you say if Nigel Greensall, Frits Van Eerd and Patrick D'aubrey can make it there will be some very fast, proven, car/driver combinations.

In my humble opinion lap time comparison between series is a pointless exercise - bar when it's made as a check-up for curiosity. I suspect that this is what you folks have in mind, right?
I had two friends engineering EuroBOSS cars a few years ago. Very interesting series and great atmosphere. Having said that, it is a gentlemen's series (and yes, I'm aware of its eventual wildcard drivers) and most guys drive wisely and within their abilities and with a dose of concern for the well-being of their machineries. I saw them a few times (maybe two events) and they put a nice show. Surely a good addition to the Champ Car program in Zolder. |

With all the Lolas and such in the US, I'm surprised we don't have a NorthAmBOSS.
MUZZA, what else did you think we had in mind? that really arouses my curiosity. |

Quote from the main website : "The 2007 EuroBOSS Series is open to pre-December 2003 Formula One chassis and any ChampCar, IRL and F3000 type chassis with engines of unlimited capacity"
Would laugh my ass off if Bourdais took you up on that! |

Well that would be whole point of the thread....what would the lap time comparison be ? Euroboss cars have already beaten some of the laptimes set by Champcars and that was with a 94 benetton !!

There have been countless attempts to create a sort of "NorthAMBoss" - as you appropriately named it - along the years, but they all failed mostly because of endless rule debating. There are, of course, several local series that bunch together vintage or " not-so-vintage" single-seaters of diverse procedence (including two run by the vintage club to which I'm affiliated) but nothing really in national or continental level. I agree Muzza. I had rather hoped you assumed that it was curiosity, as the rules (or lack of) would allow them to be quicker than anything currently running. Or so it seams, as little as I about them.
"best" is a relative term. |

Champcar should be faster. EuroBOSS cars have 650-700bhp at most and most of the top cars are around 10-12 years, yes they were at the pinnacle back then but things have moved on now and I would expect the Champcars to produce as much grip, if not a little more. Added to that Champcar has more power and more established drivers. If the EuroBOSS cars had 800-850bhp engines like when they were originally raced then things would be very close though. IMO.

Thanks Chris, sounds very exciting, I'll bet personal wealth plays a big roll in the series.
