I thought that he also had inner ear problems (also caused by the cockpit noise that the rotory engine made) that caused balance issues that lead to him retiring from competitive racing?

"Against advice, he made the choice to remove his earplugs to enjoy the newly enriched sound of four variable length intake trumpets. His decision would have serious consequences. The demands of driving the Mazda led Johnny Herbert to dehydration, but it would cause a more insidious evil for his team mate ...

With his resounding victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991, Volker Weidler pursued his career the following year in the prestigious Japanese F3000 series which Tom Kristensen would soon emerge. Victorious twice (Suzuka and Sugo), he was in good position to win the championship when balance problems disturbed his equilibrium. Probably caused by the vibrations of the quad-rotor Mazda, unbearable tinnitus would soon compel the driver to hang up his helmet for good at the tender age of 30"

"Volker Weidler suffered from tinitus, which is a hereditary disease which
not only causes deafness but also a constant buzzing in the ear (I know
that reads like an oxymoron but...) and impairment to the sense of
balance. Weidler was to have surgery to cure this and was advised to give
up racing while he recovered from the operation. I believe that he decided
on a permanent retirement."

Not exclusively a sportcar video (and I apologize if it has already been posted, I haven't seen it in the thread), but it features a BMW Z4 GT3 among other cars...

You Tube - Hakone Turnpike

...and because I love the sound of the Z4 GT3 so much, here is a video I can't stop watching, purely because of the audio:

Found this from 2014, some street demo runs in Jerusalem:

https://youtu.be/4QR1X9zsrWk

Audi R10 in there, some Ferrari 458 challenge cars amongst the odd single seater - and, despite the sound quality, one of the better video demonstrations of just how noisy the Porsche 996 used to be!

Seemed like it attracted a decent local crowd - not sure of many events like this in that region!? Nice to see such cars going to relatively new environments and getting some good crowds.

Nice vid Bob. That 996 made everything else sound like the Audi in comparison . I was under the impression that Motorsport in Israel was banned.

5 sec googling didn't bring up much, but it did bring up their motorsport association, so that impression probably isn't correct.

I think that the Suisse is the only nation to have banned motorsport.

It is not surprising that it has been failed to be lifted in 2000s due green parties but it is mindboggling how it was not lifted already decades ago.

This year an exception to the law was made to allow Formula E race in future.

Also the law has never covered hillclimb and rallying due to the original wording of the law (the irony, as if they were safer than circuits).
