British F3/GT @ Oulton

Surprised there's not already a thread full of photos from this weekend. Where is everybody?

The weather was a bit friendlier this week, but one of my worst nightmares became reality when my portable hard drive died, taking the entire morning's shooting with it. Not good.
Here's what I managed to capture on Saturday afternoon. Monday's shots to follow.

Nice pics there, were they taken from the public areas or were you accredited?

All from public areas. A couple (here and here) were even shot through the fences.

Great shots your shots from outside of Lodge looking towards the gate are the classic shots i,ve been trying to get but can never quite get the angle right, and had thought that they could only be got from inside the catch fencing by being signed on! I'll have to keep trying now!

It is possible to get a reasonable version from behind the fence, with a long lens and the right angle.

Great weekend (photos are on my site, except sunday PM which I need to finish off. I was there from late Friday for the duration, amused ourselves sunday by drinking the night before, then staying in bed, before walking the track and stuff.

Hard work though! For the 2nd GT race, I shot the grid, then had to run from there to the bottom of Cascades before the actual start. Not easy when you've only got a few minutes, and you're carrying a few kilos of gear.... then I had to get all the way back to the pitlane in time for the pitstops... and I thought I'd lost a memory card... all ended well though!

The safety car in the first F3 race helped my grid to Old Hall dash. I keep telling myself that I will get fitter as the season goes on.

Some of mine are here: http://www.motorpix.co.uk/op1504.htm

The variety of shots is good. They are nice and sharp. But your shutter speeds are a bit too high for my liking. I would prefer a bit more movement to be shown within the wheels. Does not matter as much for the head on ones. Your bike photos seem to show the movement.

PS Check out Ken's and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for your comments Snapperjack, I totally understand what you mean, I'd set my sights on getting the "sharpest" shots I could, it really is a lot different to shooting bike photos, the places that make good bike pics don't work for cars and to tell you the truth I did struggle getting my head around it BUT I also found getting the head on shots a lot easier than the bikes.

No offence to anyone but bikes are a lot more "interesting" to take shots of, you can see the bike AND the rider and what the rider is having to do to get the bike around the track, maybe another topic for discussion?

I'll tell you after next weekend - I'm going to the Superbikes for the first time!
My mum did a cracking job of putting me off motorbikes when I was a kid (she's a nurse and saw the aftermath of many an accident) so for me it's always been about cars. We'll see. I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Back to last weekend, I've finished sorting through Monday's stuff now. Enjoy ...

There's a few of mine from a somewhat dull and dreary Oulton Park here:

As usual, use the little red triangles in the upper right of the page to move to the next page..

You must've been standing near me at Cascades for the second race, we have a very similar start shot!

And me I was at Cascades as well.

Did anybody get a picture of the Morgan going through the gravel on Saturday?
