Toyota may be regretting big time the huge money they invested in this hypercar farce. They could have build a nice looking car (and competitive) by the half of the price (or less) using IMSA platform. But once Toyota were caught in a deception, even if it's a common deception.

Toyota will spend less money with is "hypercar" then other OEM with the LMDh... why??? because it would be a twin brother of the TS 050 but with a new face. But thats only my opinion :-)

They will spend what they feel is necessary. If they feel it’s not worth putting their effort in they will pull out and leave others to continue in the series. But then again, there may be others entering

I don't think so, sadly. The chassis dimensions are different from the current car. It's wider and taller than the TS050. I think it's gotta be different just for the hypercar rules. Plus Toyota says that they are done with the TS050. I do wonder if they will name the new car the TS060?

How about the engine and hybrid system? Couldn't they transfer that onto the Hypercar? Talk about an elephant room the current proposal is 100HP spec hybrid system for DPI 2.0/LMDh, the current TS050 hybrid system makes 368kW = 493HP. That would be a nightmare to BOP.

I think the hybrid will have to change because they aren't allowed to have the same power output nor awd hybrid power. So it is only going to be fwd hybrid power and much lower output, according to the rules. I don't know about the engine but I hope they use a more noisy one!

Think about it... tere's no reason to stop. They're already nearly done with the car anyway, and testing will commence probably right after Le Mans. They don't want to do lmdh anyway, it's too spec for them. So even if that were available to do, they wouldn't do it. Peugeot are thinking of it because they want to do imsa too and because Ligier will have a tender as one of the 4 next-gen lmp2's. So they can just go with that chassis instead of a custom one from the same company.

I’m not saying they don’t, but do Peugeot want to do IMSA? They’re not in the US market. Is it for the international appeal of the big races? Testing for Le Mans? They didn’t do much ALMS back in the day.
I guess what I’m asking is, have the said they want to do IMSA?

IF Toyota goes ahead with Hypercar, I will be extremely surprised! I do not see how they can possibly want to race in a series where there is no competition. The Japanese do strange things at times, but I would tend to believe that their pride alone says they cannot do this.
But who knows?

Peugeot have made vague statements about getting in to the US market in the near future. Nothing more than it's possible and I think a couple it's likely we'll launch in a couple years. I can't imagine they would since they would likely be stealing sales across the company from FCA with rebadged cars. But dumber things have happened

They have literally said they are continuing with the car and have already started the build. They would not be saving any money to restart and build a DPi/LMDh car. Especially as that would not be ready for another 2 seasons, the tenders for the hybrid system have not even been offered. THE only options they have are 1) stop racing and lose the money they've invested already to build a car for 2022 at the earliest or 2) continue with their car and race in 2020 and 21. I don't believe they will be offered the option to run the current car so that's out. They can't build a car that doesn't exist yet so going DPi 2.0 isn't an option.
Now I do think we could possibly see the hypercar run for 20-21 and 21-22 seasons before the worldwide rollout of a shared Toyota/Lexus LMDh/DPi option. But Toyota does seem to be set against racing a spec system. Where else could they run though, F1 is almost spec for the powerunit with only small areas open and HIGH entry cost with other having years of lead time, FE doesn't appear to want more cars so they'd have to buy in, but they would be in when the regs are opening a bit, remaining series are mostly spec or limited development options. Plus they appear to have caught the Le Mans bug and do not want to leave.

Yes Andrew, but i suggest that if for 3 rears running you were the only person to turn up you might lose some desire to go back.
