Actually, it sounds like Crown Royal will move over to Matt.

Also, Paul Menard will be back with Yates next year.

Is there a possibility that there will not be 43 cars on the grid at each race next season?

I would say there would be enough weekend warriors who don't have sponsorship to run full season who would turn up if they were guaranteed a start because less than 43 cars entered.

Interesting that in the last couple of races Nemechek & Blaney etc always seems to retire very early - maybe they make $$$ for finishing 43rd & not running many laps in practice/race...

Automobile Antics

The next Ford product to be raced in NA$CAR will be wearing Mustang "bodywork", replacing the Fusion. Phase in will be gradual for 2010, similar to the C.O.T. excercise.

Perhaps this is being done in part to counter the high sales acceptance of the new Camaro.

Crown Royal is officially gonna be on the 17 next year. That's it for McMurray and the 26 at Roush.

Also....as it looks now.....yes!!!!!!!!! We will have less than 43 cars soon.

My Favourite 08 moment was when Courtney/Besnard comeback drive at Bathurst. Courtney raced through to dominate the opening stint had 15 sec. gap to Lowndes who was in 2nd. In the 2nd stint a slowly deflating tyre (originally diagnosed as a damaged anti-roll bar) slowed Besnard's stint in Courtney's car allowing Whincup to assert dominance over the field rest of the race. On lap 160 S.Richards, fading badly on rear tyres was unable to stop Courtney move into 3rd place.

One of Petty's cars could disappear within the next few weeks. If it happens, then Reed Sorenson will be out, despite his improvement.

RPM downsizing? Sorenson out? UPDATE: Rumors persist that Richard Petty Motorsports will shrink to three cars in the next few weeks, with A.J. Allmendinger moving to the #43 Dodge, replacing Reed Sorenson, and the #44 team being shut down.(Ford Racing)(7-29-2009)
UPDATE: An internet report claiming that Reed Sorenson will be released by Richard Petty Motorsports as part of a downsizing of the team's Sprint Cup roster appears to be premature. The Ford Racing website reported on rumors that Sorenson will be replaced by former Champ Car star A.J. Allmendinger when Allmendinger's #44 Dodge is mothballed within the next few weeks. However, a source close to the team - speaking on the condition of anonymity - said today that while the move is being discussed, Sorenson's release is not yet a done deal. "No one is sure that it's going to happen," said the source, "but it's definitely being talked about. The team is working on the details right now." If RPM does indeed decide to trim its roster from four cars to three, Allmendinger's current sponsors would transfer to the #43 Dodge. Calls to Richard Petty Motorsports seeking comment were not immediately returned.(Sirius Speedway)(7-29-2009)

Kasey Kahne has had a new photo shoot this past week with the #9 Bud car. However there was a noticable difference.

It was a Toyota.

So many southern yankees are flying off the handle about this.

I sure as hell don't want to get into that. This isn't youtube or a political forum.

Anyway, I would keep an eye on Elliot Sadler. He may leave RPM and go to JTG or RCR.

Fuel injection?

Fuel Injection coming to NASCAR?: When NASCAR Sprint Cup director John Darby, a few weeks ago, raised the issue of 'fuel injected' racing engines in NASCAR, it raised eyebrows. NASCAR Cup engines are some of the most technically advanced engines in racing, except for the antique carburetors. Every other major form of racing, even ASA, uses fuel injected engines. NASCAR has long shied away from things electronically complicated like electronic fuel injection, for fear with goodly reason that the mechanical wizards on these racing teams might figure out a way to put some tricks in that electronic box. However NASCAR officials are raising the issue to team owners of fuel injected engines possibly in the Truck series as soon as next season, according to one scenario and asking how owners think NASCAR ought to police it. "We think fuel injection is just the right way to go in NASCAR," Pat Suhy, Chevrolet's NASCAR field director, says. "And it wouldn't be that difficult. Every other top racing series uses fuel injection. We could put something together in about a week depending on how simple or complex you wanted to do it and then test it for two months or so, and be ready to go."

The policing is as simple as carburettors. The throttle body will be one size, to a given dimension. A restrictor can be fitted for the current "plate" races.

The only issue will be clever maps to create some form of traction control.

The ECU's could be bespoke - like they use in F1 - which stops clever systems being developed to cheat the rules.

And then Jimmy Johnson might be able to make it on fuel mileage at last - because the cars will be more economical!

Keselowski again...

Keselowski meets with Penske? UPDATE: other options?: Monday, an anonymous tipster spotted driver Brad Kesolowski meeting with Roger Penske [at thier Mooresville shop?]. The 'tipsters' report: "was doing business at Penske this morning and saw Brad Kesolowski go into the building with a man who appeared to be his agent, the car was still there three hours later when i left.(jalopnik.com)(8-18-2009)
UPDATE: Brad Keselowski says there's a scenario that could keep him affiliated with Hendrick Motorsports in 2010 that nobody knows of. Turns out Phoenix Racing isn't his only option with HMS ties. Here are some possibilities:
Richard Petty Motorsports: Most of the speculation has RPM leaving Dodge for Toyota, but multiple sources said RPM has had discussions with HMS and Richard Childress Racing should they switch to General Motors. An HMS official, however, assured us that talks with RPM haven't gotten serious.
Furniture Row Racing: Furniture Row Racing could expand to two teams -- #78-Regan Smith will be in one car -- with Keselowski. But it's a huge risk for Keselowski to join a team that can't run a full schedule this season.(ESPN Insider)(8-19-2009)
