Formula Ford title decider.
I just read on Ceefax that the Formula Ford title was decided by a last corner collision.
Who's fault was it and what happenned? |

It would seem that Robert Dahlgren was leading the race with 3 corners to go. He collided with Westley Barber, crippling Dahlgrens car. Pat Long, who was only 2 points behind Dahlgren, was about to pass Dahlgrens car when Dahlgren drove straight into Long putting him out of the race and giving Dahlgren the title. Fighting in the gravel trap is a bit wide of the mark.
Touches of Schumacher. |

Is Long going to appeal or anything?

I was watching from Luffield... Barber tried overtaking Dahlgren round the outside at Priory but caught the back of his car and spun himself off, though he did regain 9th place.
After the Barber Dahlgren tussle at Priory, Long caught up with Dahlgren at Brooklands and they connected... I didn't see anything that would indicate Dahlgren deliberately driving into Long, they just squeezed each other going round the corner and both ended up paying for it... talk about dramatic end to the championship! |

it was definitely very schumacher-y. one has to wonder if these kids have had a reality check recently, and whether someone has reminded them that they're not completely immortal... on general, what they get up on to that track is totally insane...

For all you ardent followers of Formula Ford, they are at Brands Hatch again next weekend for the Touring Car Finale, then 14th October for a pre Formula Ford Festival meeting, then the Festival itself on 20th and 21st October.

Basically, there are numerous Formula Ford championships around the country, two national ones and many regional ones. The Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec championship, which ended for this year on Saturday, is the highest of these championships, using brand new cars every year. Next one down is the Avon Junior Formula Ford Zetec championship, which uses year-old cars. Then there's the regional championships (North West, Castle Combe, Midlands, Kent County) which use older cars. The drivers from the Slick 50, Avon Junior plus other European championships, will be racing in the festival, but apart from the Avon Junior championship round at Castle Combe this weekend the drivers from those championships will not be out again until the festival. |
