Here's a better shot of Daytona.
And yes, that's water. It's a man-made lake which was dug out to provide the earth for the banking. http://members.iinet.net.au/~louknee...aerial_010.jpg Lustigon, there are 4 variations to my version of Anderstorp. There's the GP circuit, a small club circuit on the left, using the club pits, and there are two other varations which _can_ be used, but rarely would be, created by using the runway to connect other parts of the circuit. The old Karussel would be covered by gravel, though, and the old section of track between Opel and Hassen would likely be underneath the paddock. If at all possible, none of the old track would actually be dug up, but it might unavoidable with my placement of the pits. |

That's long the one i've done... Lee, where do you normally get your aerial photos? There was a challenge you did a while ago where you had a topographic map, an ordinary map, and an aerial photo all of the same location. I think the site was on the border between two states, i forget which though. |

By the way, here's my Mantorp Park circuit. I think the original track is anti-clockwise, judging from the pitlane entry and exit. But, like Pirenzo, I made mine clockwise.

Mapquest, Pirenzo. But it's only valid for the US and parts of Canada.
Multimap works for the UK. I haven't been able to find aerial photos of any of the other parts of the planet. And yeah, that was the Rhode Island one. I got the topo map off Terraserver. They've also got photos, but Mapquest's tend to be better, and in color. |

Ah, well this one, I actually grabbed from our own DNQ's site. He's got a great collection.

Y'know, I'm actually pretty proud of this.
It's long, but it's fast and challenging. The thing you've got to remember about Daytona is to leave plenty of room for the RVs to park during then Winston Cup weekends. And while this track is long, there are only two corners which are really going to require a lot of run-off to be added. Otherwise, the NASCAR fans should have no trouble parking right atop the circuit. |

Hmm, wouldn't you be heading at huge speed and at right angles to a concrete wall on the last turn? Looks like a fatal accident waiting to happen...

Well, the track is very wide at that point. I suppose a kink could be added just before the turn back onto the oval, to slow the cars.

Well, i was gonna give you slightly more freedom, but that would be way too hard. This still involves you going out and getting your own detailed map.
This is a map of Luxembourg (the city), and it's surrounding towns. The Luxembourg government is looking to create a state-of-the-art race track, on the outskirts of the capital. Your are to build a 2.5 mile race track. With these criteria. 1) two hairpins. 2) two sets of esses, one faster than the other, simialr to T5/6 at Sepang. 3) A long straight, with the pits/paddock on one side, grandstands/"village" area on the other. 4) a long 180 degree + corner, with a grand stand round the outside. NO, REPEAT, NO chicanes.... The site you choose must be within the box on the map. You can do it on ths map, but it'll be a bit small. So i suggest, you pick a suitable area, then go and get a suitable, larger scale map of that area. One last criteria. The name will be that of the closest town... |

Looks like I'm the first to take up the Luxembourg Challenge. I picked a piece of land east of Bridel, north of Luxembourg City. I think it's quite a good track.

I saw another nice opportunity in the Luxembourg City area: the airport.
I designed quite a nice track which uses the two runways and the other roads to and from the terminal. It runs clockwise and the northeast-southwest runway is used as both start-finish straight and pitlane. That way the teams could use the grass (at least, I assume it is grass) behind the pits as paddock. The circuit should suit ChampCar/IndyCar or maybe other (lower) formulae. I even made a sketch for an sportscar/endurance circuit that not only uses almost all of the airport, but also part of the surrounding roads. It would be quite long, though: over 10 km. I'll work on it tomorrow... just for fun!
