F3 Monza

Very surprised this doesn't seem to have been discussed yet (or at least not that I've seen) but Parente won all three races. Not surprised with that to be honest.

More importantly, it was the best meeting of the year so far and Parente put in three stunning races.

Its certainly proved a massive meeting in terms of the championship....its gone from being a close 8 horse race to having one man leading by a country mile....imagine if he had have raced at Donny!

Looking forward to the Silverstone meeting, should be a cracker. A shame all the F3 races are on the Sunday...at least if they had raced on the Saturday with the LMES they would have had a decent crowd to play to but still.

No websites around offering decent reports on the races anymore so its hard to judge everything that went on....why was Tim Bridgman black flagged? The report on fota.co.uk is very brief

There's a load of stuff on crash.net, including a couple of radio archive interviews with Parente and Salvador Duran.

The fota site is actually quite good, but you have to navigate it in a certain way. It's best to look under Reports (rather than News), then you get everything, including free practice, qualifying and race reports. But for Race 3 go back to Spa and look for Round 3 (of the Series).

I think you'll find there will be one race on the Saturday at Silverstone. Don't forget it's another triple header with a Spa carry over - Steven Kane on pole for that one.

Bridgman was a complete moron. There was certainly a feeling within the F3 paddock that the black flag issue should be taken further. He ruined the race for his own team-mate and Charlie Kimball. But he may have also destroyed his own career.

Dan Clarke has a new trick (or perhaps not). Instead of just binning it himself, he took out two other cars in race 1 with a move that was never on.

On a brighter note, Bruno Senna picked up a 6th and then a 5th, which was good timing as the family was there in strength.

Whats the black flag issue all about?

Im assuming its chicane cutting from the report on his website, but why has it become an 'issue'

He was cutting the chicanes pretty much throughout the weekend. The Race Director had a chat with him about it after free practice or qualifying (can't remember which), but he kept doing it in the races, so he was excluded from Race 2 for that reason.

The first chicane is the worst problem because the cars approach it flat out, but then have to slow right down for what is a very tight right-hander. It's good that if you can't make it you have the option of going straight on, but the deal is that if you overtake another car in the process, you let it back past.

In the Sunday morning race, Marko Asmer was leading into the Variante Ascari on lap one, but Bridgman cut straight across the gravel for a change, hit Marko and spun him around, then continued himself - in the lead! He was given a drive through penalty, which he ignored, so then it was the black flag, which he also ignored. He actually finished second on the road, but another exclusion was inevitable.

PS Otherwise, Monza is mega!

Word on the street is that Bridgeman cut a chiccane in the first race, was called into the Clerk of Courses office, and sternly warned not to do it again. When he didn't take a Chiccane for the second race in a row he was given a drive through penalty. When he ignoored the pentalty for the next three laps he was black flagged. When he continued to race to the end he was summoned by a very mad CoC who gave him a maximum pentalty of 25,000 euros. Not the 2,500 fine he is declaring publicly.

To be fair, it was 2,500 euros, because that's the maximum in Italy. If it had happened in the UK I doubt he would have a licence today...

As Tim claims he couldn't see the black flag, or his pit board telling him to come into the pits, perhaps he should me made to visit a MSA approved doctor and optician before he drives again.

It would seem his eyesight is below the standard required to be fit to race. Perhaps Marko should be allowed to chose the optition

Just to confirm having heard this first hand, despite the many rumours that circulated around the paddock, Tim and Marko spoke briefly in the lorry then went off minutes later with their managers etc. Many pathetic rumours have been circulating but do u all honestly believe what everyone tells you they have a lot to lose and so neithe rof them are going to be that stupid despite what people believe. As for bridgmans eyesight, obviously worked well enough in quali to get him as far as he did. It ahs also been confirmed that Tims car had no contact with Markos and the spin was purely driver error on Asmers part. Sorry to disappoint but not everyone is perfect and bridgman will be continuing

Funny that. Why did the tv monitors show the incident very clearly for all to see, and why was there a very obvious mark on the nose of Bridgman's car after the race that would have neatly fitted the rear diffuser of another car?

You're right, no one is perfect, but it helps if they at least admit their mistakes. PR spin is one thing, but this is being more than economical with the truth.

well the thing about these incidents is that the right people usually know the real events, and hopefully, if there's been any hooliganism then it'll be punished.

i for one am slapping myself for not having saved up enough to be able to get to monza. i'm quite looking forward to seeing the tv coverage, although i assume they'll still have to shove 3 races into a 2 race tv slot?

Yes, it will be a 3 into 2 job and I for one wouldn't want to have to do the edit.

Each of the three races had epic battles up and down the field. There was more overtaking than you'd get in a whole season of normal F3 and cars were 3 or 4 abreast down the pits straight at times.

The National Class guys were particularly, er, vigorous. Salvador Duran had two 2nds and a win, which has pretty much halved Barton Mawer's points lead in the class. And Ben Clucas took a third and a win in what were only his third and fourth F3 races.

The Italians certainly liked it. They were a bit taken aback at first by the intensity of the racing, but then that's what they love to see. Passion and all that. You're right, you could do a promo for BF3 based on just this weekend. Saturday was a bit manic, with two quallies and two races, but the teams were fantastic and every wreck was tuned around in time to get out for the next session.

Charlie Hollings had a 4th, a dnf and a 3rd in that order, but Josh Fisher jumped him in the points chase, going 5th, 4th and 3rd. Shame for him there weren't five races!

As someone mentioned above, all I know is what I've heard from other people that weren't there either which is why I can't say any more.

I like Bridgman though, he's a good guy and quick too. He's come into F3 this year with high expectations, but he's a lot less experienced than most around him and it is showing, but given time he'll get it right.

saturday sounds like one of the excuses for not running the extra race at monza! how long did the teams get to patch together the cars between sessions?

zurich, i think you need to get a bit more into what bridgman has and hasn't done and then judge that in the context of what he is as a driver. you're missing a heck of a lot of information, all of which won't be dredged on here because it's not the place, but i think you'll find you're wide of the mark in your judgement of him (please note there i said won't be mentioned on here. you've all got alternative means of spreading gossip, use them).

anyway, no reason why someone cocking up should be the story of the weekend because clearly it wasn't.

anyone care to bet against parente for the title?
