Just a slight reality check for those calculating potential Homebush numbers.I understand that the majority of the GA ticket sales are 1 day tickets for Saturday-Cold Chisel factor. You can not multiply the Howard number by 3 and assume attendance on all 3 days. Also the proportion of GA that is walk up on the day is going to be much smaller at Homebush than elsewhere because free public transport is only available to those that have pre purchased tickets.I think careful scrutiny by Fairfax and the ABC is not going to let the organisers get away with artificial crowd counts. With 2 weeks to go we are finally going to get some of the answers to questions asked for years on these forums.

For those wondering about my reference to the Howard figures above at a press conference last week Shane Howard put grandstand sales at 8000 (all for 3 days),corporates at 6000 (counted for 3 days although the corporate caterers are not expecting anywhere near this number on Friday) and general admission sales at 25000 (the majority of which are one day Saturday sales). At the moment this gives a Sunday crowd of about 30000,a Friday crowd of 16000 and a Saturday crowd of about 38000 a signifigant number of whom will probably only turn up to see Cold Chisel particularly if this Saturdays forecast western Sydney temperature of 41 degrees is repeated in 2 weeks time. These numbers are a fair way away from Basil's confident forecast of 130000 on Sunday alone a few pages back on this thread.I understand some media organisations are intending to do independant gate head counts because this will be a bigger political story than a motor racing one.

how is doing a deal with Ch9 going to do anything? The Telegraph reports will hardly be accurate - more sensationalist, which leaves Nova, not i would have thought the station of choice for the "Cold Chisel/Living End/Grinspoon" brigade? Maybe the Potbellez/Sneaky SS/Presets brigade i guess

It looks like Sydney folk just aren't sufficiently interested in supertaxis. So it just works in Adelaide and Townsville, and it just won't in Sydney full stop?

Is Bathurst the "problem", with it overshadowing the state's other race.

Incredible to use a concert rationale, when Eastern Creek is also a venue for concerts. What a con by VESA.

Talk about pathetic ticket sales. The crowds really should be in the range of MotoGP race day crowds in Spain, a big important show drawing a big crowd, just like VESA think they are... no interest, no crowd, massive failure.

Maybe we should wait for the event to be actually run before we start labeling it a success or failure.

I don't recall a concert at EC that was co-ticketed with V8's though. If i recall correctly Jim Barnes might have been there with bikes at one stage though? And to try to compare moto mad Spain with Sydney is a bit of a long bow to draw me thinks...

They crawl from one excuse to the next in the hope that something sticks or that people blindly believe it and follow.

This time Ian McDonald reported to parliament that Eastern Creek was bike track not a car track and therefor unsuitable for v8 racing No surprise where he recieved this dribble from.

But it saves so much time if we make up our mind now. In any event I hardly think the facts will have any effect on the protagonist's opinions.

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Something from Marcos Ambroses press release today after he qualified 3rd.

QUESTION: Would you consider running at the V8 Supercar final?

“I tried to, but they wouldn't give me a license. I got turned down - I had sponsors in play and everything ready to go. I was going to go back and do it this year. The last race is in two weeks, it's at a street track around Sydney.

“I thought it would be very cool to go back and see old friends and have a race or two and they wouldn't let me in.

from my point of view, i had been considering making the trip and this would have been the deal maker for me. oh well

“The series is different down there, they have franchises. The teams own a contract to race, a Racing Entitlements Contract.

“There's 30 of them, one of them went broke so they didn't renew it. One of them the series bought back and kept in their back pocket so they were reduced to 29 so I wanted to use the
30th license for that one event, which the series owned and the series said they didn't want to do it.”

did i get this right, the recent Breakie on the Bridge which had a crowd of just 6000 people cost the NSW government $1 million dollars (it drew people from as far away as Tamworh)

I think TC should have asked for more. seems based on th above scenario he is getting ripped off,

Drove around the track today, very surprised at how narrow it is, to me, it looked very Canberra-esque...
